New Road, Vintage Cars -- Past met future today as the new road previously known as Corridor 7 opened with a soft bang featuring historic classic race cars gathered in Nassau for Bahamas Speed Week Revival being first to traverse the 1.2-mile thoroughfare that links JFK to Baha Mar Boulevard. A critical 1.2-mile link between JFK Boulevard and Cable Beach opened today in classic ceremonial fashion with a wave of two checkered flags and the entry of iconic race cars gathered in Nassau for Bahamas Speed Week Revival 2012 becoming the first to use the new thoroughfare.

The new 4-lane thoroughfare currently known as Corridor 7, provides a north-south link between JFK Boulevard at the intersection of Gladstone Road and Baha Mar Boulevard.

Colin, Higgs, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Works, was first to test the new road as the passenger in a car driven by race car legend Sir Stirling Moss, honorary patron of Bahamas Speed Week. Other officials, Baha Mar executives and the media followed in other participating cars, including several driven by local participants in Race Week.

Bahamas Speed Week continues this weekend with the Fort Charlotte Hill Climb Saturday and a full day of racing Sunday.
