Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. – From July 5-7, 2016 members of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. travelled to Atlanta, Georgia for the 26th International Regional Conference (IRC). The conference was held under the theme “Pink Pearls in the Peach City: AKA in our Hearts & Georgia on our Minds” and was led by the first International Regional Director from the International Region, Gizette L. Thomas. Members of the Sorority were extremely excited to participate in a full agenda highlighting the Sorority’s Launching New Dimensions of Service Programs, under the direction of the International President, Dr. Dorothy Buchanan Wilson. The conference equipped the attendees with pertinent information on programs, community service, and partnerships, all focused on strengthening the region’s impact.

During the conference the ladies of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter were commended for the outstanding work that they continue to do and received awards for the following: Community Impact, Family Strengthening and Health Promotion. Additionally, the chapter received the Top Overall Launching New Dimensions of Service Program Award for the International Region. Additionally, the chapter received GOLD status for it contributions to the Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF).

The highlight of the conference was the closing night’s Awards Gala which saluted the best of the region with entries received from chapters hailing from the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Liberia, South Africa, Canada, Japan, Korea and Germany. The Eta Psi Omega Chapter of Nassau, Bahamas stood out by walking away with two dynamic awards.

Ramona Wells, Public Relations Officer and Technology Chairperson of the Eta Psi Omega Chapter was named the 2016 Outstanding Graduate Chapter Member for the International Region. Ramona was recognized for, her leadership ability, academic and professional background and for her outstanding contributions to the sorority and to the Bahamas.

In addition, Samantha Kemp was named the 2016 Outstanding Graduate Advisor for the International Region and was recognized for her participation in Graduate and Undergraduate activities, her excellence on the chapter and regional levels and for providing outstanding guidance and direction to the Tau Nu chapter.

The training and excitement continued as more than 22,000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority from all over the world converged on Atlanta from July 9-16, 2016, for the organization’s biennial conference, the 67th Boulé. Eta Psi Omega was well represented and was again recognized for its accomplishments in the implementation of the sororities programs.

Contanza Adderley-Bourne, President of Eta Psi Omega Chapter, received the awards on behalf of the chapter and applauded all Bahamian members of the Sorority for all their hard work and dedication to sisterhood, scholarship and service.
