Nassau, Bahamas - The annual BISHOP HANCHELL THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON will be held on Thursday November 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Great Commission Ministries located at 237 Wulff Road. The event, which is held one week prior to the U.S. Thanksgiving Day, is attended by hundreds of persons from throughout the island including the elderly, the needy and persons from various non-governmental agencies. Sumptuous Thanksgiving dinners will also be delivered to the sick and shut-ins.

This much anticipated luncheon is the premier event that heralds the beginning of Thanksgiving and the Holiday season. The theme this year is "Thankful Hearts". Meals will be served by staff and volunteers of Great Commission Ministries, who take a delight in showing love and appreciation to the smiling patrons who will attend.

Great Commission Ministries was organized in 1987 to meet the needs of poor and hurting families in the Bahamas. The ministry feeds approximately 500 persons a balanced meal each day and distributes hundreds of grocery packages to needy families every month. Great Commission Ministries also operate homeless shelters that accommodate men, women and children who find themselves without housing and daily clothing distribution to the needy. Other initiatives that have impacted the community in reducing poverty and crime are: an effective substance abuse programme, regular anger management and conflict resolution classes, group therapy, counselling, job placement, weekly empowerment classes and a programme that reaches out to teenagers and at-risk youth called Teen Aflame. All services are free to the public. Great Commission Ministries is a donor supported organization that depends on the generosity of compassionate business owners, church leaders and individuals.
