Nassau, Bahamas - On a recent Saturday, the 30 residents of the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel were hosted to an Easter party courtesy of Cyn Fantasies – Event Planning. The property of the McKinney Drive home was transformed into a fairground complete with pastel coloured balloons and Easter-themed décor.

For founder, Cyntish Johnson, the occasion touched home for her in more ways than one. Like some of the children in the Hostel, she lost both of her parents at the age of 12, then at the age of 18 she found herself seeking refuge in a facility similar to the Hostel in order to escape a situation that may have crushed her spirit.

“I lost both of my parents at a young age so I understand the void that creates in the life of a child,” said Johnson, lead event planner and self-proclaimed kid adventurer. “Then in my late teens I actually lived for a short period at Great Commission Ministries in order to escape abuse from a family member. As a child spending time in a home, you sometimes miss out on a lot of activities afforded children living in traditional families. I decided to provide an opportunity for these children to let loose and have some fun in the comforts of a familiar space.”

The children, aged 5 – 15, were treated to snow cone, popcorn, cotton candy, a candy table and hotdogs churned out by machines which dotted the grass. Readily, they worked off the just eaten calories by jumping around in a bouncing castle, searching for eggs during an egg hunt, having their faces painted and playing the latest video games on two 50-inch TV screens and board games. They were also entertained by a bunny mascot who doled out prizes and Easter baskets.

“We are always very grateful to individuals and companies that seek to enrich the lives of the children here at the Hostel,” said Sabrina Smith, Administrator, Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel. “Cyn Fantasies approached us to host this event and we were truly amazed at the level of thought and attention that went into planning this Easter party. The joy was evident in all of the children.”

The mother of two, with a passion for planning, found herself in a ‘dead-end job’ and decided to do something about it. She got her start planning her son’s birthday party. The response and encouragement she received from adult and children party-goers was so overwhelming that she launched the business.

Cyn Fantasies provides full-service event planning but specializes in children-themed parties. Party themes have included Spider Man, Frozen, Strawberry Shortcake and Pirates. When she’s not fully engaged and in party mode, Johnson is in the kitchen baking sweet treats as a self-taught ‘pastry chef’, a service she also offers to her clients.

“Though we’re a young company, we have a strong commitment to community and giving back,” Johnson said. “I get incredible joy from planning parties but this one was extra special. Seeing the smiles spread across the children’s faces made the effort worthwhile. They said to me – ‘You did all this for us?!’”
