Nassau, Bahamas - Last week 80 students from D.W. Davis Jr. High School learned the principles of table etiquette at Sandals Royal Bahamian.

The Modern Language classes gathered in the resort’s ballroom as public relations manager, Chester Robards, and Food and Beverage training manager, Sharon Cartwright, shared their expertise on good table manners and etiquette for the third consecutive year.

Six students sat at the demonstration table that was completely set for a four course meal. These students practiced the techniques shown to them as the other students looked on and asked questions.

Ms. Cartwright shared with the students the proper standards for plated service and table settings, as well as food and drink service.

Mr. Robards explained how manners would take them anywhere they wanted to go in life.

The young men were taught to always pull chairs out for ladies and to allow them to be seated first, and that they should always open doors to allow a lady through before they themselves enter or exit.

As usual, the students ended their etiquette training with a formal lunch catered by the Sandals Royal Bahamian team members.

“It made us learn a lot about how to eat and behave at tables,” said Vasudev Jagroo. “I learned that I have to open the seats for the women.

Volola Archer added: “It was fun and I learned a lot. I learned that you can use etiquette at home and also when you go out.”

The teachers all agreed that the presentations have gotten better over the years and that this year outweighed the first two.

Before they left the resort, the students and teachers presented the Sandals staff with a plaque of appreciation for the training session.
