Nassau, Bahamas - Dr. Ricardo P. Deveaux – President & CEO, The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation was recently the recipient of the 2013 Black Man Can Education K-12 Award. The Annual Black Man Can Awards which is held in the United States of America, recognizes and honours positive Black Men and Boys who contribute to their communities and professional arenas.
The Honourable Jerome Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science and Technology applauded the accomplishments of Dr. Deveaux, on being the first international recipient to receive the award. Dr. Deveaux was the recipient of the Education K-12 Award, which recognizes a male working with K-12 students, and using innovation to empower students to reach their fullest potential. He was saluted for his work with the annual Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program, which he was instrumental in establishing in 1997.
The Minister thanked Dr. Deveaux for his vision to establish the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program and the energy and passion that he has given to the program since its inception. He also noted that The Student of the Year Awards Program has truly inspired hundreds of primary school students to strive for academic excellence in our country. Over the past 17 years, the program has impacted over 1,500 of the best and brightest primary school students and awarded over $800,000.00 in scholarships and prizes.
