Nassau, Bahamas - RUBiS Bahamas Limited is a Gold Sponsor of the upcoming 17th Annual Cancer Society Gala Ball, held this year at the Atlantis, Paradise Island under the theme “Met Gala: Colours of Life”. Funds raised at the ball will assist the Cancer Society in operating programmes aimed at the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer, including providing temporary housing for Bahamians from the Family Islands undergoing cancer treatment in Nassau.

The sponsorship serves as a continuation of RUBiS’ multifaceted campaign of raising cancer awareness. During its Cancer Awareness Month the company hosted several exciting initiatives aimed at increasing employee knowledge of the many different types of cancer and their causes.

The campaign included the development of partnerships with several local cancer awareness organizations including the Gennie Dean Caring & Sharing Group, through which RUBiS sponsored Bahamian breast cancer survivors’ participation in the 2017 Komen Race for a Cure in Miami.

Other Cancer Awareness Month initiatives included a departmental cancer ribbon competition, which saw each department of the company select a different type of cancer to research each week. Departments were then encouraged to share the knowledge gained with the wider staff community, and to wear the colour of the ribbon which represents that type of cancer on Fridays.

The month culminated with a Bowl for the Cure event at which RUBiS employees and their families enjoyed a day of bowling and camaraderie at Mario’s Bowling Alley. The company committed to donating $50 for every strike at the event toward cancer awareness organizations in The Bahamas. At the end, there were a total of 86 strikes. Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and Us Too Prostate Cancer Awareness & Support Organization were the proud recipients of $4,300 inclusive from the Bowl for the Cure event.

Latia Duncombe, RUBiS Sales & Marketing Manager, shared her thoughts on the company’s initiatives and the upcoming ball, stating, “We are looking forward to a memorable ball. The Cancer Society of The Bahamas is a very important organization in the fight against cancer in our community, and we are proud to support their efforts. Cancer is a terrible disease that affects so many Bahamian families every year. At RUBiS, we feel it is extremely important and we are committed to doing our part in raising awareness and promoting healthy lifestyles both within and outside of our organization which can help to decrease the occurrence of the disease.”
