Leandra Taylor received an opportunity of a lifetime when she was chosen
as the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship from the Rotary Club of Nassau
Sunrise to attend The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute
(BTVI).
The Government High School graduate was one of many Interact Club members who applied for the scholarship by writing an essay to the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise, explaining why she should be chosen to receive the scholarship. Interact Clubs are the youth branch of Rotary.
Leandra, who developed leadership skills and social responsibility, convinced the club of her worthiness by expressing her genuine desire to further her education.
She is very grateful for this opportunity and the burden it lifted.
“I’m very appreciative for the scholarship because my mommy and daddy didn’t have the money to pay for me to go to school. It saved my parents from having to struggle to pay for my education,” said the 17-year-old.
Leandra is studying towards a certificate in Office Assistant, with intentions to pursue the Associate’s of Applied Science degree in Office Administration.
She thanks the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise for investing in her and giving her a chance at a successful future.
The Interact Club is a mentorship program that also helps students transition from high school to college and into the workforce. In this case, Leandra has been well prepped for the college environment.
