Musical Instruments donated by The Sandals Foundation to the Exuma Youth Marching Band came just in time for 100 young Family Islanders to participated in the Battle of Bands Showcase in  Boynton Beach Florida this past weekend.

The event was held at the Boynton Beach Community College.

“This was an excellent experience for the children we are so excited about the new equipment they came right in time,” Band Administrator Dora Smith said.

The Sandals Foundation donated more than $4,000 worth of instruments for the band just weeks before the left for the competition.

Sir Baltron Bethel, senior advisor to Prime Minister Perry Christie and CEO of Sandals Resorts International Adam Stewart were present for the handover this month which took place in the ballroom of Sandals Emerald Bay, Exuma.

The band is made up of more than 100 members from Great Exuma and the surrounding cays.

“We are delighted the instruments came right in time for this trip. Our previous instruments were in bad condition. On behalf of the Exuma Youth Matching Band, we want to give a heartfelt thank you to the sandals foundation for the assistance over the past years and supporting the growth of the youth in our community,” Band Director Perry Brice said.
