Abaco, The Bahamas – Students in Abaco will be ready for school with supplies distributed from Sun Oil Limited, a Shell licensee.
Hundreds of children and parents attended the fifth annual Sun Oil Limited Back-To-School Extravaganza held at the Patrick J. Bethel High School in Marsh Harbour, Abaco. Rufus Johnson Jr., Sun Oil’s Marketing Manager said, “Our investment in helping children be more prepared for the first day of school reflects our commitment to fuelling journeys that matter in education and student success. Our Sun Oil Limited Back-To-School Extravaganza provided students with a hot lunch and back packs filled with school supplies.” Johnson added, “We also engaged local barbers to provide haircuts for young boys, while local beauticians braided little girl’s hair. We did this because we want our future nation builders to look good and be equipped for a strong start to the new school year.”

Throughout the event, children enjoyed a variety of food and drinks, along with ring play games, entertainment and giveaways. Parents and adults were offered health check-ups, provided by Colina, a strategic partner who has participated in the event over the past five years. Johnson explained, “We know that the back to school period can add an element of stress on parents and so we incorporated some basic screenings at the event to remind parents about the importance of taking care of themselves so that they can lead happy and healthy lives to support their children.”
Another strategic partner that played a pivotal role in the event’s success was the Pilot Club of Abaco. Charlotte Swann, a past president and project coordinator for the Pilot Club of Abaco mobilized volunteers to assist. Swann stated, “Our members packed more than 500 schoolbags with notebooks, pencils, water bottles and other supplies provided by Sun Oil. We decided to help because our organization values the spirit of volunteering and giving back. Additionally, many of our Pilot Club members appreciate how much of a blessing this outreach means to many persons throughout the community of Abaco.”

Swann added that working with Sun Oil has been a rewarding experience and deemed it beneficial to partner with a Bahamian business that invests in making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Swann commented, “We look forward to maintaining a positive relationship with Sun Oil because together we live out our club’s motto to ‘do more, care more, be more’.”
Johnson concluded, “At Sun Oil, we are fuelling journeys that matter and will continue to be present throughout The Bahamas making a positive difference and building relationships.”
