Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation Elects New Leadership Team‏

Nassau, Bahamas - The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation held its Eleventh Annual General Meeting on Saturday, September 19th, 2015 and welcomed two new members and elected a new team of officers.

The Board of Directors welcomed Mr. Daxton Bethell, a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Mr. Richard Simms, a Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Mr. N. Vandyke Pratt, Chairman of the Board noted that the Foundation elected some new members to the Executive Leadership Team and felt that the new addition will bring the energy and passion needed to take the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program to another level.
 
The leadership team include:

•    Mr. N. Vandyke Pratt – Chairman
        (Member, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.)

•    Dr. Ricardo P. Deveaux – President & CEO
        (Life Member, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.)

•    Dr. Cindy Dorsett – Vice-President of Operations
        (Life Member, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.)
 
•    Mr. Geovanie Rodgers, CPA – Vice-President of Finance
       (Member, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.)

•    Ms. Valerie Dean – Vice-President of Programs
        (Member, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.)

•    Mr. Richard Simms, CPA – Assistant Vice-President of Finance
        (Member, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.)

•    Mr. Daxton Bethell – Assistant Vice-President of Development
        (Life Member, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.)

•    Ms. Nickara Pratt – Assistant Vice-President of Communications & Corporate Secretary
        (Member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.)

All of the new officers have been elected for a one-year term.

The new leadership team will help carry on the vital work of the foundation, which is to recognize the top primary school students in the country. “Over the last eighteen years, the foundation has provided over $1 million dollars in scholarships and prizes to over 1,800 students,” Pratt said. “Our members are passionate about the annual Awards Ceremony and committed to assisting our students to receive the recognition deserved.”

The Foundation also thanked Dr. Antoine Clarke, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. who retired from The Board of Directors and Mr. Vaughn Culmer, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. who stepped down as the Foundation Vice-President of Development. Mr. Culmer will continue to serve as a Foundation Director.

About the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation and the Awards Program

The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program is a premier national awards recognition program for 6th graders in The Bahamas. Since it was established in 1997, over 1,800 primary school students have been recognized and over $1 Million dollars in scholarships and prizes presented.  The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation, in partnership with the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council, the local coalition of Fraternities and Sororities. The Foundation was incorporated under The Companies Act of 1992 of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in June 2004, as a fully registered non-profit foundation. The Foundation was given birth through the Nassau, Bahamas Council of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. It is an autonomous non-profit educational entity dedicated exclusively to public, charitable, and educational purposes of the Awards Program.
