BELGIUM - Sgt Vincent Pedican receives his portrait of
his father Vincent Pedican Sr. in Belgium where he and his wife live
while on military leave from Afghanistan during his tenure with the US
Army. The portrait was g
ifted to him by his wife, Latoya Pedican who entered The Bahamas Weekly's promotion with The Celebrity Artist,
Jamaal Rolle.
"Big S/O to Jamal Rolle, and The Bahamas Weekly team for
the drawing. I am very humbled by the gesture. Thank you all for making
this a reality," said Sgt Pedican over Facebook.
"My husband’s father lost
his life in November 2007 when he was kidnapped from his job at Eight
Mile Rock High School and then murdered. I recall the day when my
husband (Vincent Charles Pedican) called devastated because the last
voice message from his father was deleted from his phone. It was all he
had left...his voice," said Latoya Pedican when writing to enter the
promotion.
"My husband often talks about the anguish of never
knowing how or why his father died, and reflects on the year before his
passing, when for the first time he truly got to know the man whose
name he carries. He holds on to those memories tightly. His father
Vincent “Doc” Pedican was a stellar man from what I’ve been told, a well
known Grand Bahamian fondly missed by all who knew him. For this reason
I would love to have a portrait of my father in law drawn, as a
keepsake to my husband, his grand children and to the future generations
of Pedicans, that were not allowed the privilege to meet this
well-loved man."
Celebrity Artist, Jamaal Rolle has drawn and presented life-like
portraits to Oprah, His Royal Highness Prince Harry, Sir Sidney Poitier,
Johnny Depp and Justin Bieber just to name a few, and is becoming famous in his own right.
