Burger King's 3rd Annual Speech Competiton‏

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Burger King Freeport Restaurants have engaged in several Youth Initiatives one of which is our Annual High School Speech Competition. The purpose of which is to provide a forum that is educational and rewarding for High School students.

On Thursday November 26th, 2009, Burger King sponsored its 3rd Annual High School Speech Competition which was directed by Toastmasters International. There were 13 participants representing 9 of the 10 high schools on Grand Bahama on the topic: “The Death Penalty, is it a Deterrent to Crime?’

At the end of a very exciting evening where all participants and speech coaches received an award, BK is pleased to announce the 2009-2010 winner is a 12th Grade student of Catholic High, Ms. Tia Duncombe. Ms. Duncombe, in addition to receiving scholarship assistance and trophy was named BK Teen Spokesperson for 2009-2010. 2nd place was Ms. Winnae Hunt from Sunland Baptist Academy and in 3rd place Ms. Joinee Taylor of Jack Hayward High School.

These students will also comprise the BK Youth Debate Team who will compete against the Royal Bahamas Police Force Debate Team on Thursday January 7th, 2010 in the 1st BK Youth and Community Debate. The Resolution: “ Be it resolve, that the Death Penalty Is a Deterrent to Crime.” Congratulation is extended to all participants for the excellent presentations put forth on Thursday past.
