Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) is proud to be a major event sponsor for this year’s ‘Boys to Men’ Mentoring Conference. , Mr. Dudley Seide, organization founder, Reach Out Youth Ministries, announced the theme of the second annual spiritually based conference: “Judgement Day…Are you Ready?”, during a cheque presentation in front of ‘The Pink’ Building, GBPA headquarters.

Focusing on spiritual preparation, the one day conference, scheduled for this Saturday, 6th February, 2010, targets youth males primarily residing in the inner-city communities. GBPA President, Mr. Ian Rolle presented the cheque on behalf of GBPA to Reach Out Youth Ministries and shared that he too knows the importance of healthy role models in our society.

“I have a personal passion to be a positive role model to a number of Bahamians. When I see someone giving his or her all, sharing in the dream, which is the development of our youth, I have no choice but to support someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. I think it’s very important that this program be a faith based program. This is the only way we can cure certain ails in our society and Dudley and his group, Reach Out Youth Ministries, have shown very positively, ways that they can change young men who may not have, or had certain opportunities that I may have had. All of us need to do our part to help the youth,” Rolle stated.

MENTORING TODAY’S YOUTH: Mr. Ian Rolle, GBPA President (left) and Mr. Dudley Seide, discuss the value of conferences like the ‘Boys to Men’ Mentoring Conference created to aid in the guidance of adolescent boys on their journey to manhood, while in front of the main entrance to ‘The Pink’ building.

The challenge for boys in today’s world is greater than ever. Boys have too few positive role models and far too many negative examples of masculinity. Gangs, drugs, adult content accessible via internet and teen pregnancies compound this critical time in a young man’s life. Too many boys get caught up in a path they may not have chosen if they had a mentor to help see options, weigh consequences and make positive choices. The Reach Out Youth Ministries ‘Boys to Men’ Mentoring Conference presents an opportunity, allowing each boy to decide what kind of man he wants to be, by offering hope, support and guidance, all while keeping God at the centre of the conference’s focus.

Dudley Seide accepted the cheque from GBPA on behalf of Reach Out Youth Ministries while exchanging these words with GBPA’s president, “We use a different method to spread the message of Jesus Christ, through sports, using basketball to attract the kids and then we use it to minister to them. As we mentor the young men, a lot of times we hear that the young men are lost. What they really need is someone there to show them love and show them guidance. Our message is ‘Drop the Guns’, ‘Drop the Knives’ and ‘Try Jesus’. Thank you to The Grand Bahama Port Authority, you have always been there for us from inception. Mr. Rolle is a blessing and anytime I call on The Port, they always assist. Thank God for Mr. Rolle because he believes in the youth of this nation,” said Seide.

Adolescence is a critical time when young men are faced with choices that affect them for the rest of their lives. When boys grow up without positive role models it has a devastating impact on them, their families and our society. If you are aware of a young man who is in aid of the services offered by Reach Out Youth Ministries, please contact Dudley Seide or a member of his team at 352.3019 because every boy wants to be a good man.
