Hutchison Port Holdings, Bahamas Business Units Congratulate Scholarship Recipients

Freeport, Grand Bahama – Showing their ongoing commitment to the Grand Bahama community, Freeport Container Port (FCP), Freeport Harbour Company (FHC) and the Grand Bahama Airport Company (GBAC) have awarded grants to 15 candidates pursuing tertiary education. The awardees are recent high school graduates between the ages of 16 and 24.

FCP, FHC and GBAC offer scholarships annually to young individuals seeking tertiary education as a way of contributing to the future leaders of the nation and the pool of educated individuals in all fields.

The annual grant is open to everyone, with a focus on career choices that benefit the port and logistics industry giving the students a chance to work at FCP, FHC and GBAC upon graduation.

“We are delighted to continue to support the community of Grand Bahama with our scholarship programme,” said Godfrey Smith, CEO of FCP, FHC and GBAC. “A number of our scholarship awardees have joined FCP, FHC and GBAC while others are spread across the globe, bringing the benefits of their independent school education to local businesses, the Grand Bahama community, and by extension, the whole Bahamas.”

The scholarship programme began in 1998 and has helped numerous Bahamian university graduates to date.

Prerequisites for consideration are that the candidates be Bahamian, possess a minimum term GPA of 3.0, and are enrolled in or have been accepted into the College of The Bahamas or an accredited college abroad.

Additionally, they must have five General Certificate of Education or Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education, be a well-rounded individual and involved in community service.

The Scholarship Board comprised of FCP, FHC and GBAC Executives Board that meets twice a year to select the awardees. The grant is paid directly to the college/university and awarded in September and January, provided the term 3.0 GPA is maintained.

A number of awardees have joined FCP, FHC and GBAC family, and continues to make an invaluable contribution.
