Freeport, Grand Bahama - Considering his three decades of working with kids, it’s only logical that Errol Bodie would take on a larger role with The Grand Bahama Tennis and Squash Club (GBTSC). Mr. Bodie, a constant presence at GBTSC, is currently the club’s President who has pledged the commitment of himself and the club’s staff. Now three months in progress, Mr. Bodie who has developed a substantial adult tennis and squash programme, realizes that there exists a need for a Junior Tennis and Squash Porgramme.

The initial programme, funded by a government grant, has so far, been a great success. Four local schools, Freeport Primary School #2, St. George’s High School, Sunland Baptist Academy, and Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy with over 300 combined students, participate in the introduction of both tennis and squash during the regular schools hours of the designated Physical Education class time. “The response has been phenomenal,” commented Mr. Bodie as he accepted a cheque on behalf of the club presented by two Executives from The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA). “In the past, many people came to the club and because of membership, the facilities were top notch. Bahamians don’t come any more and therefore we had to find a way to introduce the club to Bahamians, through their kids. The Port Authority often supports us, and this aid will allow us an opportunity to enhance the weekend and afterschool programme, especially for a key group of about twenty students who have shown potential in both sports.”

GBPA Vice President, Mrs. Ginger Moxey, presented the cheque to Mr. Bodie on behalf of the company. Avid squash player and GBTSC member, GBPA President, Mr. Ian Rolle, shared brief words in support of the programme, “First of all I’d like to congratulate Mr. Bodie and his team, for doing such an excellent job with the kids. You have provided a safe venue for kids to come, play and learn a sport that can offer a passport to further education through scholarship and travel opportunities. Tennis and Squash are both excellent forms of exercise and this game can be played rain or shine. That’s one the favorite things about the game to me.” Mr. Rolle also put forth a challenge to the kids currently enrolled in the programme and those kids yet to enroll, “Since I‘ve been introduced to the game, Mr. Bodie has given me some training, sharpened my skills and made me a better squash player. Therefore, I am now looking for some active young players to challenge me in keeping my game up.”

Our children are in an ever increasing need of worthwhile, healthy activities. The Grand Bahama Port Authority would like to encourage all corporate citizens, to join them and their support of the Junior Tennis and Squash Programme of the Grand Bahama Tennis and Squash Club. Please call a member of the club at 373.4567 to make your pledge of support to a programme that will enhance the lives of our youth for ever.
