Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - Catholic Schools Week is January
25th to January 29th, 2010. During this week the
Administration, Staff and Students of Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic
School, with other Catholic schools on the island will celebrate the
enduring gift of Catholic Education in the Bahamas. Catholic schools
have been a beacon to our archipelago of islands, lighting the Bahamian
horizon. Last year we commemorated 120 years of Catholic Education in
our country.
On Monday, January 25th,
the students of Mary, Star will present a special Assembly at 10:15
a.m. in the Wallace Groves Auditorium to kick off this exciting week.
Parents, Alumni, Special Guests, and the media are invited to this Assembly.
This year the theme for Catholic Schools Week is Catholic Schools; Faith,
Knowledge, Discipline, Morals, Dividends for Life.
In 1960 Wallace Groves and
Catholic Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty founded Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic
School in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Fifty years later the school, a pillar
of the community, is still known for its academic excellence. As this
prominent institution reached its half century mark, it will continue
to light the way for its students.
We, at Mary, Star of the Sea
are hoping to make contact with our Alumni from years past as we move
into our fiftieth year. A Homecoming week-end is planned for the October
Holiday weekend 2010 with a Church Cervice, Family Brunch, Banquet,
Family Fun Day, and Open House and many other activities. All former
students and teachers of the school are asked to contact the school’s
office or join our Facebook group Friends of Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic
School to get further details.
