Freeport, Grand Bahama - More than 500 pairs of sleepy feet were wide awake to participate in the 12th Annual Atlantic Medical Insurance Funwalk on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 which started at 6:30a.m. at the company’s office in the Jasmine Corporate Center .

“This year’s support was phenomenal”, says Office Manager Lisa Turnquest, “it seems that our funwalk has gotten its “wings” back and the numbers proved it”.

She said, “We owe a debt of gratitude to the company groups that came out in huge numbers, namely the Grand Bahama Port Authority, BTC, FirstCaribbean Bank, Cable Bahamas, RBC/ Finco, GB Power Company, Freeport Ship Services, Commonwealth Bank, Scotia Bank, PharmaChem, MSC Bahamas, KPMG, Harcourt Development, Polymer’s International and Star General Insurance”.

It boldly demonstrates a commitment by these companies to encourage their most valuable resources – their staff to engage in healthier lifestyles in the prevention of catastrophic diseases like certain types of cancer, diabetes and hypertension which can lead to heart disease.

Proceeds from the annual funwalks held by Atlantic Medical (in Nassau and Freeport) go to the Bahamas Diabetic Association and the Bahamas Cancer Society to assist in their ongoing work to build awareness and render assistance to those persons ailing with these diseases.

Turnquest added that although Atlantic Medical funds this walk this has become a community event which is heavily supported by a number of local companies and international partners, Cleveland Clinic – Florida and Baptist Health South Florida who graciously donate prizes and other giveaways which add to the overall enjoyment of the event for all participants, not just those who walk competitively.
