West End Primary students are doing their part to clean their community. Mrs. Andrea Roberts, Grde 4 teach, along with WPC3181 Knowles and Police Constable Jeremy Frances of the West End Neighboring Police with students

West End, Grand Bahama Island - Twenty two West End Primary students, along with several teachers, took to the streets of West End in an effort to remove garbage strewn along the streets.

The students were lectured about the importance of keeping their environment clean by Mrs. Nekira Wilchcombe, Director of the Environmental Department of The Grand Bahama Port Authority.

This initiative was led by Sargeant 1833 Barry, along with WPC3181 Knowles and Police Constable Jeremy Frances of the West End Neighbouring Police.
Commenting on the clean up, Sgt. Barry says, "We spoke to the children about the importance of keeping their environment clean along with the health and beautification implications. They are excited to participate in the clean up and they know that people will want to come to a clean environment, after all West End is known as the "Home of Hospitality."

This exercise comes on the heels of the $250,000 conch shell removal project in West End spearheaded by Ginn. Last summer, the longtime discarded conch shells that had occupied the seafront, were hauled away. Additionally, other accumulated trash and debris were removed to create a cleaner, more hospitable, environment. The removed conch shells were dried, crushed and recycled as road base material. Ginn aimed to ensure continued cleanliness by creating and designating a conch shell dumping site for the use of local fishermen.

The West End Town Council then organized a bulk waste removal in the community in conjunction with the Dept. of Environmental Health.
This clean up exercise led by the West End Neighbouring Police is one of several planned for the year, as West Enders make a concerted effort to improve their community.

The Ginn West End Foundation sponsored the clean up and the refreshments that were provided afterwards.
