The United States Embassy celebrated the 233rd Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America with two celebrations; one in Freeport, Grand Bahama on Wednesday, July 1, and the other in New Providence on July 2nd.  This is the first time that the Embassy hosted an official Independence celebration on Grand Bahama.  This year’s celebration theme was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln”.

In Grand Bahama, the 4th of July an official reception was held in the Pavillion at Our Lucaya Beach & Golf Resort.

Speakers included U.S. Chargè d’Affaires a.i., Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, and a Bahamian government official.

A special feature of the ceremony was a performance by character actors representing President and Mrs. Lincoln performed by Larry and Mary Elliot, a husband and wife team.
