Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Ginn Development Company has teamed up with the West End Neighbouring Police to encourage West End students to 'strive to achieve'.  Each month, a student is selected for best academic achievement and another student for best overall improvement.  The awardees are announced by their headmistress, Mrs. Lenora Hield, at a Special Assembly. The students each receive a special tropy and lunch for week.  Their Teacher will also be treated to lunch.
"The Ginn Company is pleased to encourage the students of West End Primary to give their best effort, at all times" says Al Jones, Vice President of Ginn.

Sergeant 1833 Barry of the West End Division who co-ordinates this programme says, "We wish for all students to take their education seriously, and we also encourage the students to be mindful and courteous to their peers, teachers and parents, as they are tomorrow's leaders".

Photographs and information on the two Star Students - Keiara Russell and Havannah Wilkinson - written by their teachers are below:

There’s so much to say about Keiara, but all good things. Keiara is bold, courageous, daring and never afraid of a challenge. Keiara is a smart and beautiful young lady on the inside and out. She is mannerly, pleasant, self-motivated, and is a great role model among her peers.

Keiara has a zest for learning and a she’s always willing to share her knowledge with her peers. In the class she’s the second teacher. When there’s a student that just won’t get it, she steps up to the plate. She says “See all Mrs. Stubbs is saying is to do this”…. and she does a great job getting the message to her peers, when I used up all my resources.

What makes Keiara a star child you might ask? Because she’s smart, you might say. Well, yes she is smart; but that doesn’t make you a star child in my book. Keiara is self motivated and has a willingness to try. If she doesn’t get it, she will say Mrs. Stubbs I don’t understand how to do this, can you help me? She does not give up she ‘PERSEVERES’ and that’s what makes a star child in my eyes.

Quiet, poise, reserved and well mannered. Those are just some of the words that sums up Havannah in a nutshell, but don’t let that fool you. Havannah is beautiful on the outside, but her true beauty comes from within. When it comes to getting her work done, Havannah blossoms like a rose in a garden of thorns. She arises to any challenge that comes her way; whether it’s in the classroom, representing her class or representing school.

She is an excellent role-model for all to follow and presents herself with the highest dignity and pride. She makes very good use of her free time by reading or playing a game that will enhance her skills and challenges what she knows. Havannah is truly a confident gem that shines wherever she goes.

What makes Havannah a star child, you might ask? Yes, she is a very bright young lady with a promising future. However, it is because of her mannerism and her quest for knowledge. She has the right attitude which speaks for her altitude and that’s what makes Havannah Wilkinson a star child of grade five.
