Nassau, Bahamas - A State Funeral was held on January 5th, 2012 for Sir Clifford Darling GCVO, the fourth Governor-General of The Bahamas. Sir Clifford Darling born February 6th, 1922 on  Acklins Island Bahamas, served from 1992 until his retirement on January 2, 1995.

Sir Clifford died on December 27, 2011.  He was 89 years old.  He is survived by his wife, Lady Igrid Darling, his children and other relatives.

Sir Clifford Darling, no stranger to Bahamian politics, played quite an active role in that arena; he was a Senator from 1964–67, Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly from 1967-69, Minister of State in 1969, Labour and Welfare in 1971 and Labour and National Insurance from 1974-77. He was Speaker of the House of Assembly from 1977 until becoming Governor-General in 1992.

During his earlier years,  he worked as a taxi cab driver, and served as both the general secretary, and president of the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union.
