Music man, Michael Riddim of Nassau feels that the most inspirational Bahamians were the Golden Knights in 2012.

to canvas their opinions on highlights of The Bahamas over
the year 2012, as well as ask about the upcoming 40th year of independence for The Bahamas, and the direction of the country.
Their comments will be shared over the coming weeks.
It is our way of highlighting Bahamians in our community, as well as sharing a wide variety of opinions.

Michael 'Riddim' Cooper of Nassau:
What event do you feel was the most important for The Bahamas in 2012?
I believe the renaming of the Paradise Island Bridge to the Sidney Poitier Bridge stands out as the most important for me this year. Despite the small controversy behind it I strongly felt it was well deserved considering that Sir Sidney has represented and contributed to this country most of his career. The renaming has added so much more value to the bridge and the country as a whole as it now a new historic attraction.
Who passed away this year that you feel will be 'most missed' and why?
Thomas A. Robinson. He is one of truest national heroes we had who represented this country so well in sports on the world stage. I didn’t know him personally but I heard he was a humble soul and it’s unfortunate he passed away so soon after he got his just honours.
Who was the 'most inspirational / influential Bahamian' in 2012?
I think this year the most inspirational Bahamians were the Golden Knights. Our Olympic team, who most Bahamians probably didn’t expect to bring home the gold, showed us that you never give up despite the odds. In our final hopes for gold they pulled it off and the country once again had something to be very proud about, and this time it was our men who brought home the honours.
2013 is the country's 40th anniversary of Independence. What should we be most proud of in the past 40 years?
I believe my country should be very proud of itself despite what else is going on in and around the world negatively. We happen to manage, for the most part, and remain a very peaceful nation that is continuing to grow slowly, but surely.
What/who do you feel is a Bahamian National Treasure and why?
Our Water, Our Sea is our national treasure. We depend on it for our livelihood; it provides food for us, and also brings tourist from around the world to enjoy our shores. We would be utterly crippled without the beautiful turquoise waters of The Bahamas.
Looking forward, where do you feel the country still needs to improve and why?
We need to diversify this economy and not focus primarily on tourism. We need to get into farming and technology immediately. A nation that can feed itself, and provide more than one service, can survive.
