Ashleigh Rolle hopes not to be the 'only' Bahamian at the One World Summit for youth coming November 5th as she carries the Bahamian flag in the opening ceremony. Email her to find out how you can attend. Sponsors are also needed.

Freeport, Bahamas -
Last year when I was selected as a candidate and then sponsored by Bahamas Hot Mix and PharmaChem Technologies to attend the 2011 One Young World Summit in Zürich, Switzerland I literally thought that I was probably amongst some of the most privileged youth in the Caribbean.

Since that magical week in Switzerland I have doubled my efforts to try to ensure that I as a young Bahamian do my part and contribute to this community and by extension the world in the best way I possibly can.

This year as a One Young World Ambassador has been filled with many highs and lows for me, from a rather successful Global Dignity Day 2011 to a flop of a Wake Up Call in 2012. I’ve had the opportunity to meet with ambassadors in New York and Boston and the privilege of being apart of the Official delegation of the 6th annual World Youth Congress Rio+20 in Rio de Janeiro doing in three days what collective governments could not do in 20 years and that was create a document that we all agreed upon that would make this world a Sustainable one.

This morning I was given word that I will carry the honour of bearing the Bahamian Flag during the opening ceremony in Pittsburgh at the 3rd annual One Young World Summit on October 18th, 2012.

Even though this would be the opportunity of a lifetime, I still could not help feeling melancholy,  because I know that I could once again likely be the only Bahamian at this year’s summit.

So today I send out an invitation to young Bahamian change-makers between the ages of 18-30 that on November 5th 2012 you also come with me to www.oneyoungworld.com

And I learn about next year’s summit that will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa I want us to rival the numbers of the Americans, and the Canadians, and the South Africans, and the Russians on this Global platform, but more importantly, I want to be able to showcase young Bahamians who don’t just care about themselves, but the world at large. I think we can do it.

I look forward to next month in Pittsburgh but I hold a higher level of anticipation for when the Bahamians take One Young World by storm.

If anyone would like to talk to me about coming along, please feel free to email me at:
