Nassau,
Bahamas - On March 7th, a fundraiser was held by the Lend a Hand
Bahamas Foundation, which was recently created to plan, develop, and
manage community centres where needed in the Bahamas.
"We raised some funds and put on a great event for the children and families we are working to positively impact," the foundation founder, Lucas Metropulos who was assisted by George
Maillis, Valentino "Scrooge" Brown, Edmund Dorsett, and Marvin Coleby.
"During the day before the event, we
along with children and others from the Grant's Town community worked
together to clean up their basketball court. Everyone pitched in as you
will see in the pictures," said Metropulos.
Lend a Hand is fundraising to construct the much needed community centre in that area. Many
Bahamian companies and individuals pitched in their time to make the
event a great success including: Rotary East, Marco's Pizza, Sports
Center, Harbourside Marine, Andbank Bahamas, the British Colonial
Hilton, Sandy Toes, Green Parrot, Athena Cafe, Imperial Cafeteria,
Olives Meze Grill, Brass & Leather, and the Software Club.
Donations are still greatly needed and will go towards the project. Persons wishing to help can email: lendahandbahamas@gmail.com. The centre will run off of renewable
energy, provide more opportunities/ activities for children and adults,
and serve as a safe haven during hurricanes. In addition, the centre
will have a strong focus on entrepreneurial development and
environmental science.
