Nassau, Bahamas - With summer quickly coming to a close and back-to-school right around the corner, Primeval Forest National Park will be open this holiday Monday, August 4th where guided tours will be available to visitors.

As the capital of The Bahamas, New Providence is home to two-thirds of all Bahamians, which means it provides the ultimate fast-paced, non-stop hustle and bustle lifestyle that can sometimes become too much, especially for the little ones. Therefore, this summer, The Bahamas National Trust invites you and your family to get away from it all for a few hours or even a full day— with a visit to Primeval Forest National Park.

Located in the southwest portion of Nassau, the park is just south of Frank Watson Highway and is truly a gem hidden away from the rest of civilization, where the only noises are the birds’ chirping and wind blowing through the trees. Accessible by car, you’ll love that the seven-acre park is remarkably undisturbed and entering this area is like a step back into prehistoric times. With its thick, lush trees, the park is perfect for exploring and the forests supports a diverse collection of plant life, as well as various species of wild life.
Established in 2002, the Primeval Forest is a remarkable site to visit, as it will ignite your kids’ imagination with its dramatic sinkholes and unique limestone “caverns” up to 50 feet long, 30 feet wide, and in some cases 30 feet deep. Whether you live in Nassau or just planning a trip, a visit to the Primeval Forest is an excellent way to relax and discover Nassau’s natural beauty of birds, butterflies and native flora.

Entering the park is like taking a step back in time, this park protects an area of tropical evergreen hardwood forest that would have greeted early visitors to our islands. However, it is the Karst topography that makes this park a true national treasure. The underground caverns and holes form an underground labyrinth with some of the caverns being 50 feet long, 30 feet wide and 30 feet deep. (BNT Photo)
