June 30th – July 5th has been officially proclaimed Police Appreciation Week by Bahamas Government to bring community attention and awareness to the hard work and service of the brave and dedicated members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force on Grand Bahama who keep our streets safe.   Police Appreciation Week will culminate on Saturday, July 5th at the Rotary Club Of Grand Bahama Sunrise “ Protect the Protectors   Rib Fest” at Seahorse Plaza from 12 – 6pm with entertainment by the Royal Bahamas Police Band and demonstrations by Royal   Bahamas  Police and Fire Departments.

The Rib tickets are being sold by members of The Rotary Club of GB Sunrise and Royal Bahamas Police Force for $12 for a delicious Rack of Ribs, Yams and Cole slaw.   All of the proceeds of this event are to raise funds for purchasing protective vests for the Police force which are so desperately needed.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is extremely short of protective vests.   Earlier this year, an officer who was not wearing a vest was killed in a shooting.   This was the call to action to “Protect the Protectors.”   The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce was the first to act and they have donated 23 vests that were custom sized and purchased. This was the spark that ignited The Rotary Club of GB Sunrise to do more.   The GB Sunrise Club has planned an aggressive campaign to secure more vests for our local protectors.  Rotary wants to show appreciation to the men and women in uniform and to raise enough money to pay for 75 more custom fitted protective vests.   During the week of June 30 through July 5, there will be a campaign of corporate and community fund raising, culminating on July 5 with the Rib Fest.   This is an opportunity not only to showcase what the Police do to safeguard the community, but also to interest and encourage our young people to seek careers in law enforcement and fire safety.   It will also be an opportunity for officers and the families of Grand Bahama to meet together informally.   The Rib Fest fund-raiser will feature mouth-watering southern smoked ribs.

The Rotary Club urges the public to get out and support the police and encourages the corporate community to step up to the plate and help purchase protective vests. The tickets are available at the Armoury Company, Coldwell Banker James Sarles Realty or any Rotary member.

PROTECTIVE PRODUCTS INTERNATIONAL (PPI) VEST SAVES MISSOURI OFFICER Montgomery City Police Officer Shot Nine Times Following Routine Traffic Stop

SUNRISE, FLORIDA, June 16, 2006 — A Missouri Police Officer is alive today thanks to a ballistic-resistant vest manufactured by Protective Products International (PPI), one of the leading designers and manufacturers of state-of-the-art concealable and tactical body armor.

Montgomery City Police Officer Brandon LyBarger, 25, was shot nine times on the morning of June 2, 2006, by a man accused of murdering a woman and wounding another person. Officer LyBarger suffered wounds to his torso, shoulder, lower arm and lower back and was released from the hospital several days later. "Thankfully, none of his injuries were life-threatening," said Chief P.L. Ahern.

The events began with a routine traffic stop in Montgomery City, a small town near Interstate 70 and Highway 19 in mid-Missouri. Two Montgomery City police officers stopped the accused man just after midnight after he ran a stop sign. The officers were unaware that the suspect was armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

"The officer stopped the vehicle and one of them approached. While seated in the driver seat, he began to fire at the officer approaching the car," said Sgt. Jason Clark of the Missouri State Highway Patrol which is investigating the incident.

Officer Brandon LyBarger was shot without warning nine times, the 9mm rounds easily stopped by his concealable bullet-resistant vest, made by Protective Products International. PPI will replace Officer Brandon's vest free of charge.

Mr. Steve Giordanella, President of Protective Products International stated, "We are humbled by Officer LyBarger's bravery and courage under fire. This young man's undaunted spirit is a testament to the men and women of The Montgomery City Police Department."
