Can a bikini save a life? Well, in a round-a-bout way, it just might. The Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association, more commonly known as BASRA, recently launched its all-new 2007-2008 BASRA Swimsuit Calendar as a key component to its annual fund-raising efforts. Money raised through the sale of the calendar will go directly towards keeping BASRA active as the only dedicated rescue organisation in the Bahamas.

The calendar, which features all local models with fun and unique concepts in the photos, went on sale at the 37th Annual Bernie Butler Swim Marathon and the accompanying beach party, August 18th in Freeport. This week the Calendar’s producer photographer, sponsor and two of the swimsuit models flew from Grand Bahama to New Providence for a media blitz in the capitol.

The promotional team started their media blitz at the studios of The Counselors Limited where they taped a segment for Bahamas @ Sunrise, which aired on Friday and repeated on channel 11 this week. The team then headed to Radio House where they interviewed with Nassau’s very own Cool 96, 100 Jamz and Nassau’s newest soft rock station Y98.

“It’s been a fun and hectic day,” stated Jeff Butler who is the sponsor of the November calendar month, a director of BASRA, a male model in the calendar and the pilot for the trip. “We’ve had a great reception from all of the reporters and announcers we have met today and BASRA Nassau has been very helpful.”

“It’s dynamic,” exclaimed BASRA Director Chris Lloyd when he saw the calendar in person.   “We’ve been reading the press on it and went online to check it out and we believe it’s a great idea – something totally fun and different all helping our cause and help increasing awareness of BASRA in the community.”

Photography for the calendar is the work of well-known fashion and glamour photographer Erik Russell, owner and operator of Keen i Media Ltd, a media production company and talent agency located in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Keen i Media also arranged all of the talent and the accompanying web site ( http://www.basracalendar.com/) with more information about the calendar.   The web site also provides a fun opportunity for people to vote for their favourite model online and download free computer desktop wallpaper graphics of the swimsuit models.

Russell also created a two-minute behind-the-scenes video giving a glimpse at the work that went into the project, which is fast becoming one of the most watched videos on the Bahamas network on FaceBook and on BahamiansOnLine.com.   “We’ve had over 2,000 views of the video and 5,000 unique visits to our website,” said Russell “We have also gotten a lot of play on YouTube.”

The new full colour calendar, sponsored by local companies in Grand Bahama, is a pure profit calendar for BASRA Grand Bahama and is now on sale in Grand Bahama at; Barefoot Marketing, Butler’s Specialty, Bristol Wines & Spirits, Keen i Media, Sapona Imports, Sweat P’s Lunch Café, Top Notch, and at Unexso dive shop, which also donated all the swimwear for the calendar.   In Nassau interested supporters can find the calendar at the BASRA Head Quarters on East Bay Street (352-8864) and at local marina’s Marlin, Lightbourne and Harbour Side.

“The calendars are full color and feature some absolutely beautiful Bahamians,” said producer Sarah Kirkby of Barefoot Marketing “we are charging $20 for the calendar which is all pure profit, it all helps pay for rescues – your purchase of this calendar could save a life at sea. “
