ADAM KARCHMontréal, june 2011 — Nine years have passed since Adam Karch’s first album “Crossroad Diaries” hit stores, but the Quebecois singer/guitarist is back in full force with his powerful new release, “Cotton Fields,” an album alive with acoustic energy and steeped in musical maturity and an innate sense of melody that is characteristically Karch.  “Cotton Fields” runs the gamut of the blues, beginning with selections from the 1930s, all the while bringing a modern sensibility to the classic compositions.  Along with this journey through the blues, Adam Karch delights his audience with five original compositions that sit neatly amidst the classic pieces, bearing Adam Karch’s unique signature style.

“Cotton Fields” is a tribute to the long walk taken by so many African Americans on the long road from slavery to freedom.  In fact, the disk is dedicated to one of the heroines in the struggle, Harriet Tubman who escaped slavery and became a freedom fighter for the rights of Black people.

Adam Karch will present the songs of “Cotton Fields” at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal on June 29th and 30th, and July 1st at Balmoral.  He will be in Quebec City on July 7, 9, 14 and15 at the Complexe du Maurice Night Club. The fall tour dates will be announced shortly.

Adam Karch grew up on a farm in the village of L’Acadie, Quebec.  At a very young age, he became fascinated with the guitar and after receiving a left-handed acoustic guitar from his father, he immersed himself in the study of musical transcriptions.  From age 15, he performed frequently in clubs, gaining invaluable experience, enabling him to play on a tour of Germany alongside Jeff Healey.  Impressed by the talent and unique voice of the young musician, the legendary Canadian musician Walter Rossi produced Adam Karch’s first album, “Crossroad Diaries” in 2002.
