West End, Grand Bahama ISLAND (October 3, 2008)
– As part of continued efforts to assist with the revitalization of the heritage and culture of the West End community, Ginn Resorts is sponsoring the upcoming Little, Junior & Miss West End Beauty Pageant.
Thirteen young ladies will be vying for titles during the October 19 pageant that will be held at 4 p.m. in the new pavilion at Old Bahama Bay by Ginn sur Mer. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to each category winner.
Contestants in the Little Miss category, ages 5 – 8, include: Ansonique Hanna, Kaiden Hepburn and Trevesia Rolle.
Contestants in the Junior Miss category, ages 9 – 12, are: Annamarie Amerthil, Jean Hanna, Lavisha Smith, Ashanti Stuart, and Braneka Stubbs.
Contestants in the Miss West End category, ages 13-17 include: Shaquel Hepburn, Wartisha Hepburn, Valentia Rolle, Taveka Russell and Mariah Williams.
Pageant judges include: Antoinette “Monice” Neely, Patra Stuart, Phil Franks, Gloria McGlone, Mary Culmer and guest judge, Bob Van Bergen.
The contestants will participate in a variety of special events leading up to the pageant. On October 4, contestants will enjoy an afternoon at the Dolphin Experience, and on October 12, they will worship at St. Mary’s Magdalene Anglican Church in West End at 10 a.m.
On October 18, contestants will participate in a float parade leaving the International Bazaar parking lot at 4 p.m. The parade will end with a judge’s cocktail party at 7 p.m. at the Discovery Center at Ginn sur Mer in West End.
Craven Forbes is serving as pageant trainer and choreographer and Roger Rolle is the statistician. Ann Percentie-Russell and Harold Rolle will host the pageant.
Pageant committee members include: Annie Beckles, chairperson; Lasha Colton, contestant coordinator; Anneka Ferguson, treasurer; Sherelle Laing, secretary; and Shyrone Parker, co-chairperson and public relations.
Tickets for the pageant are priced at $20 for concert seating and $30 for reserved table seating and can be obtained from the contestants or committee members.
