West End, Grand Bahama Island– Old Bahama Bay by Ginn sur Mer was a buzz of activity during this year’s Ginn sur Mer Homeowners’ Weekend held at the property earlier this month.
During the three-day event, scores of property and resort condo owners reunited with neighbors, enjoyed West End’s Bahamian hospitality, received updates on current and future plans for the Ginn sur Mer project and were given the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer forum with Ginn sur Mer officials. The annual association meeting for Old Bahama Bay was also held in conjunction with Ginn sur Mer Homeowner’s Weekend.
Highlights of the weekend included a lineup of cocktail parties, dinner receptions, boating excursions and live entertainment.
A Night at the Carnival
welcome reception featured native dancers, including a fire dancer, music by Da Matrixx Band and a colorful junkanoo rush-out by the Ginn sur Mer-sponsored West End Conquerors.
Owners cruised along the resort’s inland canal system and north and south shores aboard the new Conch Pearl water taxi enjoying soothing ocean breezes, spectacular views, wine and cheese and a narrated tour of the rich history of West End.
The 34-foot water taxi – hand-crafted in Istanbul, Turkey, by Vicem Yacht Builders – is constructed of mahogany and teak and is the only water taxi of this size and style built by Vicem.
Interior features include custom-made adjustable tables with a wood inlay in the shape of the letter G, two air conditioners, two insulated drink boxes and CD stereo sound with overhead speakers.
The Conch Pearl has 360-degree drop-down curtains to protect passengers from the elements and a handmade painted hardtop with overhead lighting.
The Conch Pearl currently offers daily cruises from Old Bahama Bay for resort guests and private charters. The vessel is the first of many planned water taxis that will be used to transport visitors and property owners to and from future Ginn sur Mer residences and the proposed marina, casino and beach club.
The weekend of activities concluded with a Jazz Our Way cocktail and dinner reception. Featured performers included pianist Stephen Colebrook, a regular local entertainer in the AQUA fine dining restaurant at Old Bahama Bay; the Shelly Carey Jazz Trio; and the resort’s very own employee performance troupe, West End Love Train.
