West End, Grand Bahama Island - From May 14-17, 2009 The Ginn Old Bahama Bay Resort and Marina played host to dozens of the world’s most skilled fishermen for the Mike Schmidt’s Winners Circle Fishing Tournament. The event which is held annually is in its 10th year with the funds raised used to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

More than 35 teams entered and participated in the 3 day tournament including a team from Old Bahama Bay. Avid Fishermen Al Jones, Senior VP of Ginn Development and Nathan Moody Director of Operations  at Old Bahama Bay, personally sponsored the team with Mr. Jones offering his personal vessel the “Grand Baby” for use, while Mr. Moody funded the cost and was the Captain for the team.

The event was used as an opportunity to provide greater fellowshipping opportunities for members of the Old Bahama Bay staff.   Each of the three days provided five employees with the opportunity to participate. In total 16 employees made up the team, and while the group did not place in the tournament Moody says he was pleased with the overall performance of the team. “We did not place in the tournament” he says, “because you need one of each species: dolphin, Wahoo and tuna, and we did not catch a Wahoo, but we did do very well in total catch”.

On day one, the 8 member team made up of Eddie Green, Luther Ferguson, Portia Rolle, Vanessa Ward-Brown, Nathan Moody, Nathanier Brown, Georgeana Henfield and Prescola Basden made an impressive showing with a total weight of 200 pounds with 9 dolphins. Nathanier Brown took top honors for the day catching the largest fish: a dolphin weighing in at 39 pounds.

On day two, the slightly smaller team of Erica Hield, Luther Ferguson, Samantha Thomson, Eddie Green, Mary Deal and Nathan Moody caught 4 tuna and 3 dolphins for total weight 100 pounds.

On the final day of competition, Old Bahama Bay’s 7 member team of Michael Moxey, Lasha Colton, Jessie Roker, Annie Beckles, Eddie Green, Nathan Moody, and Larry Wilchcombe caught 5 tuna, and 2 dolphins for a total weight of 138 pounds.
