West End, Grand Bahama Island Raylene “Shelly” Gardiner and Georgeanna Hendfield have been named manager and employee of the quarter at Old Bahama Bay by Ginn sur Mer.

A 14-year tourism veteran, Gardiner began working in the hospitality industry as a front office and reservations clerk. She quickly moved up the ranks, presently serving as front office manager at Old Bahama Bay.

“I chose a career in tourism because of a genuine love to serve and assist people,” Gardiner said. “It’s a joy to interact and bring cheer to my internal and external customers knowing that each day brings new opportunities.”

A Certified Hospitality Department Trainer (CHDT) and Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT), Gardiner holds an associate degree in hospitality management and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Employed at Old Bahama Bay since March 2005, Georgeanna Hendfield serves as a marina clerk who strives to always offer outstanding customer service.

“I view challenges on the job as character-building situations,” she said. “I maintain a positive attitude by always smiling with guests even if I’m having a bad day.”

Certified in business administration and secretarial studies, Hendfield encourages others to enter the hospitality field.

“It’s very satisfying and rewarding, and there are many spin-off career opportunities,” she added.

Donald Glass, vice president of human resources at Old Bahama Bay, commended the pair.

“They are both deserving of their awards,” he said. “Shelly Gardiner works tirelessly to ensure that her department runs efficiently and effectively and goes beyond the call of duty to achieve the desired results.

Similarly, Georgeanna Hendfield sets an excellent example for others by her job performance and conduct in the workplace. She is motivated to advance herself and continues to do so by enrolling in evening courses.”

Four other Old Bahama Bay staff members were also recognized with Star Awards for their outstanding work.

Recipients included Dawn Parker, front desk clerk; Daniel Laing, houseman; Pippa Smith, vector control supervisor; and Mia Russell, food and beverage manager.
