During the Senior Junkanoo Seed Funding Presentation, on September 20, 2018, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Lanisha T. Rolle thanked the Junkanoo leaders, Junkanooers and Junkanoo fans who continued to ensure that The Bahamas preserves its identity and history through “this rich cultural experience called Junkanoo.”

“Our ancestors celebrated the art of Junkanoo, long before our Independence,” Minister Rolle noted at the event held at her Ministry's University Drive Head Office, stating it is a "tradition ingrained in the hearts, minds and souls of our people. 'Tourism Money Never Done' Workshop - Sep 19, 2018 - 4:31:30 PM

The Ministry of Tourism & Aviation and the Bahamas Development Bank sponsored a 'Tourism Money Never Done' workshop -- linking small businesses and tourism on September 13 & 14 at the British Colonial Hilton.  Presenters Patrick Rahming and Brendan Foulkes are pictured conducting lectures with aspiring entrepreneurs.  The content of the workshop focused on “capturing the imagination of budding entrepreneurs who already have an inkling to start a tourism-related business and are seeking guidance and funding," as described by Minister of Tourism & Aviation the Hon. Dionisio D'Aguilar in a previous event announcing the planned workshop.  Up to $50,000 would be available from the Bahamas Development Bank for participants, depending on the project and its potential...

As The House of Assembly prepares to reopen session today, The Organization for Responsible Governance (ORG), a not-for-profit aimed at good governance, education reform, and economic development, is probing the status of the Integrity Commission and Ombudsman Bills, tabled in parliament nearly a year ago. 

“It  has been an eventful summer; headlines such as the BPL Board dismissals and the accusations in recent high profile corruption cases reinforce the need to put best practice anti-corruption measures in place such as the Integrity Commission and Ombudsman,” said Matt Aubry, Executive Director of ORG.

On September 18, 2018, members of the Bahamas Protected project team submitted a Marine Protection Plan to the Government for expanding marine protected areas in the country in an effort to protect future jobs, safeguard the environment, and help protect food sources for The Bahamas.

According to information from the team, the plan will help the Government fulfill its pledge to protect 20 percent of the country’s seabed by 2020.  One of the major issues that Marine Protection Plan helps solve is the decline in our marine resources from a variety of negative impacts including climate change and poaching...
