The Bahamas Department Of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 7:15am edt until 9am edt Wednesday 09th August 2017.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Exuma, Cat Island, Rum Cay and their adjacent waters.
7:10am observation, radar and satellite imagery depicted a cluster of
thunderstorms moving towards the mentioned areas. This weather is
associated with an active tropical wave and a mid to upper level low

In less than a week, the 2017 North Atlantic hurricane season will
officially begin and during this time most Bahamians are a bit uneasy
due impart to the recent powerful and very devastating Hurricanes Matthew
which struck many of the islands in the NW Bahamas(New Providence,
North Andros and Grand Bahama) and Joaquin which struck many of the
islands in the Central and SE Bahamas (Acklins, Crooked Island, Rum Cay,
San Salvador, Inagua and Long Island). I had a chance to speak to several
of the hurricane experts within the region about the outlook for the
Colorado State University (CSU) hurricane researchers Phil Klotzbach and
his team in April were predicting a slightly below-average Atlantic
hurricane season in 2017, citing the potential development of El Niño as
well as recent anomalous cooling in the tropical Atlantic as primary

Florida Keys providing recovery assistance to The Bahamas

The Florida Keys are teaming up to provide recovery assistance to The
Bahamas, said a statement on their Facebook page which continues:
"Marathon City Manager Chuck Lindsey and city Manager Jim Scholl
have coordinated with Bahamian Defense Force Commander Bethel to
provide some assistance. The Bahamian Defense Force has been docked in
Key West Harbor to stay out of the path of Hurricane Matthew. We are
currently collecting cases of bottled water as well as diapers for the
ships to take back to The Bahamas when they return. Anyone wishing to
help should drop the items at the Palm Avenue Public Works facility in

Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) to remain closed on Friday

has reported that the Lynden Pindling International Airport will remain
closed on Friday as stakeholders begin the clear up operation with a
view to restoring operations on Saturday.
Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) said on Thursday night that
staff are asked to report for work at 8am on Friday to begin the clear
up and to "dress comfortably". NAD also asked all stakeholders of the

an “ALL CLEAR” for islands in the Southeast Bahamas, which experienced a
Category 3 storm about one year after the devastating Hurricane
Those islands are Ingua, Ragged Island, Mayaguana, Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay and Samana Cay.
At 2am Thursday, the center of Hurricane Matthew was located near
latitude 23.7 degrees north and longitude 76.7 degrees west or about 63
miles west-northwest of George Town, Exuma, 38 south of Staniel Cay

Grand Bahama Power: No planned, controlled shutdowns

POWER CO. wishes to inform customers that there will be no planned,
controlled shutdown of our systems. We will generate and transmit power
as long as we safely can. We will have employees stationed at our
generation and distribution headquarters throughout the storm so that we
can begin to restore power as soon as it’s safe to do so. Should power
be lost, restoration will begin once the storm has passed and the
all-clear is given by NEMA. If you need to report a downed power lines
