On Tuesday March 17, 2020 the Ministry of Health was informed that the Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet was experiencing a mild cough following recent travel history to Miami for medical attention and in an abundance of caution he had opted to place himself into voluntary quarantine. He contacted the Chief Medical Officer and a medical team was dispatched to assess the Prime Minister. A sample was taken for testing which included testing for COVID-19...

Please note that Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet was as of this morning feeling unwell and in accordance with the established protocols went into self-quarantine. The Prime Minister immediately stayed away from all of his meetings and engagements.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities led an epidemiological investigation to determine the etiology of reported cases of pneumonia in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. This led to the discovery of a new strain of Corona Virus Disease COVID-19.

Mr. Speaker, I commend the Minister and the Ministry of Health, in particular the Chief Medical Officer and her team (CMO) for the response so far on the COVID-19 (Corona virus) crisis now sweeping the world. Their task is not an easy one and they deserve our full support.

A new US$46 million initiative to promote Blue Economic priorities in the Caribbean, in support of the sustainable use and conservation of the region’s vast and diverse marine ecosystems and  resources, gets underway with a two-day inception workshop on 5-6 March at the Best Western Plus Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in Belize City.

As he delivered his outgoing address as Caribbean Community Chairman, Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet called for increased attention on climate change, blacklisting by the European Union, the adversities facing small island states in the international community, the ongoing situation in Venezuela and the withdrawal of correspondent banking services from the region.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) conducted its annual ‘Exercise Region Rap’ with its Participating States and Regional Response Mechanism (RRM) partners on Tuesday February 18, 2020.

The Exercise was dubbed a success with 14 Participating States and 16 regional and international partners taking part, including development partners, CARICOM institutions and UN Agencies..
