Nassau, Bahamas - The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas invites professional artists working in The Bahamas and Bahamian artists abroad to enter their work in our Fifth National Exhibition (NE5) scheduled to open in August 2010. The theme for this exhibition is "The Carbon Footprint: Bahamian Artists' 21st Century Response to the Environment." 

Attached is the Exhibition description as well as the Official Rules and Entry Form.. 

Submission deadline is June 30th...

Nassau, Bahamas - The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas Announces the Leave of Absence of its Current Director, Dr. Erica James and the appointment of David A. Bailey as Acting Director and Visiting Resident Curator in her absence.

The founding director of the National Art Gallery Dr. Erica James will take a year long sabbatical to serve as a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri beginning January 2010.

Dr. James returned to The Bahamas in 2003 after being retained as Visiting Resident Curator by the Committee to Establish the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. She was tasked with overseeing the final stages of the restoration and renovation of Villa....

Mr. Bailey is the Visiting Curator of the NAGB's Fifth National Exhibition in 2010.

Nassau, Bahamas - Art is many things but there is a business side to it that somehow is not fully acknowledged.  the business of Art in The Bahamas has historically been viewed as a difficult, if not impossible, enterprise.  Galleries have come and gone.  Has the market changed in recent years?

Attend the NAGB Issues Forum, " The Business of Art in The Bahamas" on October 22nd at 7pm.

Panelists will be John Cox, Pam Burnside, Jay Koment, Antonius Roberts, and Heino Schmidt.

Nassau, Bahamas - On the morning of October 19, 2009 Bahamian Artist and National Monument Amos Ferguson went home to be with the Lord he had spoken to and communicated with through his paintings for the past fifty years.

Amos Ferguson was born in 1920 in Exuma. He received his primary school education at Roker’s Point School in Exuma.  Ferguson came to Nassau in 1937 to learn a trade. He dabbled in various enterprises such as upholstery and furniture finishing. Finally he went into house painting and began painting on cardboard, drinking glasses and whatever he could find after receiving divine instruction. He first sold his works in the Straw Market but soon made his home on Exuma Street (now Amos Ferguson Street) his studio...

The NAGB Sunday Chamber Music Series presents:"Sine Nomine" on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 3pm  at the NAGB. The Sine Nomine singers were formed in 2002 by JoAnne Connaughton and they very quickly established themselves into an eight voice harmony. The singers are Bonny Byfield, Cara Christie, Pia Farmer, Undo Osborn, Cairo Roche, Bill Eyk, Felipe Itturalde & Carlos Thomas. Six of these singers are original members.

The group performs several times a year in concert and sings on request for private functions and are especially sought after during Lent, Advent and Christmas. Their repertoire ranges from beautiful Early Music (i.e.Medieval to Renaissance to early Baroque Music) to lighter...

Nassau, New Providence - The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) is pleased to host its first annual Art Careers Fair on March 5th and 6th, 2009. This much anticipated event will sensitize motivated students to diverse possibilities in creative fields by assembling an impressive cadre of practitioners across the disciplines on the island. This Fair is a result of the Gallery’s existing comprehensive public outreach agenda that showcases a plethora of ideas in the country, region and beyond.

The Arts Career Fair will be hosted on the grounds of The National Art Gallery, West Hill Street, and will feature professionals from the Fine Arts, Literary Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Film, Jewelry Design, Tattoo Design, Performing Arts and Theatre, Music Recording, Promotion and Management, Floral Design, Event Planning, Art Education, Television and Print Media amongst others.
