Nassau, The Bahamas - Three Grand Bahamian artists will be speaking about their work in the NE4 Exhibition tonight at the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas.

This session starts at 6:30pm this evening, November 18th and features Claudette Dean, Chantal Bethel and Susan Moir-Mackey.

In order to invite deeper conversations on the idea of a National Exhibition, this is the last of three sessions which will engage the work currently on display at the Gallery...

Nassau, The Bahamas - The NAGB and the art community of The Bahamas has this rare opportunity to engage with two of the art world's brightest stars: Ras Ishi Butcher and Ras Akyem-I Ramsay of Barbados.

The Barbadian artist Ras Ishi has been a very prolific Caribbean painter for the past three decades. He has continually honed his skills over that time and attained a high level of professionalism. Today he continues to explore and investigate the mysteries of the Caribbean's individuality...

The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas Announces their New Art Library - Oct 29, 2008 - 5:32:34 PM

A dream of the Director of the National Art Gallery and one of the key elements in the development plan for the Gallery has finally been realized with the opening of the NAGB Art Library.

Librarian Penelope Nottage has spent the last eight months transforming a space in the symbolic core of the Gallery into an intimate area with floor to ceiling bookshelves, a cozy reading corner, study table, and computer workstation. Users will be able to browse books,journals and audiovisual materials, with a particular emphasis on art and artists of The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. Additional information on Bahamian art and artists will be kept in a vertical file of newspaper clippings. An online catalog of holdings will also be available with there-launching of the Gallery’s website.

A special open house will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 10am to 4pm for all interested persons...

Livable Neighbourhoods Mural Competition - Sep 22, 2008 - 8:06:34 PM

The  National Art Gallery is working in collaboration with the Livable Neighbourhoods Community Project to paint positive murals and plant trees in our city parks and schools. We are starting with the Marathon community and hopefully will move into Kemp Road and other areas where groups may want to develop the same project.

The NAGB says the following: The Livable Neighbourhoods Mural Competition Committee is coordinating a Mural Competition and Paint-Up designed to transform our neighbourhoods from graffiti-ridden, blighted environments to aesthetically pleasing walls, parks, and school buildings.

The painting of the mural on the walls of the Lou Adderley Park will commence on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 8 am...

The Fourth National Exhibition (NE4)
featuring the work of thirty-one professional Bahamian artists and officially opened to the public on July 9, 2008. Photo Highlights of "Developing Blackness" - Mar 18, 2008 - 8:30:40 PM

An opening reception of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas' latest exhibition, "Developing Blackness", with still photographs of "Over the Hill" Nassau in the Independence Era took place on Friday, March 14th.

Thanks to Grand Bahamian artist, Claudette Dean, who attended the event with artist and friend Chantal Bethel, also of Grand Bahama we present photo highlights of that successful opening night were guests where encouraged to dress in attire from the  60s to  80s.
