The Models are Ready to Hit the Runway at Islands of the World Fashion Showcase

Nassau, Bahamas (May 11, 2012) - Excitement and anticipation is thick in the air backstage at the Islands of the World Fashion Showcase, as models, designers and make-up artists are hard at work preparing for the show just a couple hours before the show.

12 designers will be showcased tonight from various Islands around the world, those being Zatthu Inc. of The Bahamas; Jaeylu Inc. - St. Lucia; Autumn Crop - Bahamas; Harl Taylor BAG - Bahamas; Miracle Hands - Guyana; House of Raphelita - Bahamas; Kymmistic  - St. Vincent; Van der Vlugt - Trinidad & Tobago; and Theodore Elyett - Bahamas.

Local designer from Grand Bahama, Courtney McIntosh of Zatthu Inc. said she was looking forward to the show and is excited to show her collection of men's and women’s resort and swimwear.

New to the event, model Drew Palacious of Grand Bahama Island said “This is the biggest show I have ever walked in and the energy here is great!”


Model Tomii Culmer expressed her appreciation for the event stating that she will be walking for 10 of the 12 designers. "I know its going to be hectic, but its going to be a lot of fun! I am happy for the opportunity to walk in this show and am looking forward to the after party, to socialize and relax.”

The sentiments of appreciation were also echoed by Model Sinardo, a former Supermodel of the Bahamas winner. “It is so refreshing to be part of such a big production and even though its hectic, it’s a great event for local models, as it gets us exposure and can open the door to other opportunities.”

The two day event will be fashion focused on Friday night and fun and networking available on Saturday with the closing reception at Blu Restaurant Bar Lounge on Elizabeth and Bay Streets in Nassau.

About the Show

 

Endorsed from its inception in 2008 by the United Nations Education al, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Islands of the World Fashion Showcase (formerly Islands of the World Fashion Week) has been successful in fulfilling its mandate of promoting island designers from around the world and exposing them to international media and buyers.  It is also mandated to expose its audience to four underlyin g themes affecting small-island states today – cultural diversity, the environment and climate change, poverty alleviation and the education of youth on HIV/AIDS .

 

The two-day event will highlight international designers each season. The event in May highlights designer resort, sports and swim wear and accessories while November will feature designer couture, pret-a-porter and casual wear and accessories.

 

Designers will vie for several awards including the NextGen Desig ner, Sustainable Eco-Fashion, Culture & Fashion and the Seals of Excellence.
