Bahamas - A fabulous time was had by all as the weekend’s activities
drew to a close on Saturday afternoon, December 5th at the National
Tennis Centre.
The 3 day Invitational started off with a wonderful Cocktail Buffet Party hosted by the Balmoral Club on 3rd December.
The developers, Jason Kinsale and Raimond Zeilstra, staged a spectacular
buffet and cocktail party which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The
Calcutta auction of the teams playing in the ProAm on Friday, 4th December was heartily supported by
many tennis fans, including Sarkis and Katie Izmirlian, Pippa and
Peter Vlasov, Mark Holowesko, Laurent Colli, Christian Coquoz and
Antonia Meade...
Nassau, Bahamas - Young twelve year old tennis player, Dylan Walker had the golden opportunity to travel courtesy of the Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational to New Providence to participate in the 'Hit with the Pros' segment of the exhibition on Saturday, December 5th at the Bahamas National Tennis Center.
Stephen Turnquest, BLTA President, said that they wanted
to include some representation from islands other than New Providence
as so often they get neglected due to travel expenses etc and he is
extremely grateful that the MKCTI is underwriting their airfares.

all as the weekend’s activities of the 9th Annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Invitational drew to a close on Saturday afternoon,
December 5th at the National Tennis Centre.
Stands
were full of spectators as the event opened with a Junkanoo performance
and matches were soon underway with the professional players hitting in
intense mixed-doubles or singles games. Each of the visiting pros
received a trophy plate at the end of the exhibition.
Visiting pros that played along with Bahamian tennis star Mark Knowles were
Benjamin Becker, Robert Kendrick,
Don Johnson, Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Martin Damm, Olga Savchukand Jared Palmer.

Mark Knowles received the following
statement from Andy Roddick today,
“It is with deep regret
that I am announcing that I will not be able to participate in the Mark
Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational. Due to my existing knee injury,
I am still unable to compete and am continuing a detailed daily rehabilitation
program on my knee in order to expedite my recovery for the upcoming
2010 season. I hope to visit the Bahamas in 2010 and again I am
very sorry to miss this year’s Invitational. Wishing you a very
successful event,
Nassau, Bahamas - This year the Mark Knowles Celebrity TennisInvitational (MKCTI) organizers have added an additional
interactive experience for junior tennis players to the fun-filled
weekend activities. Certain of the country's promising juniors, several young players
have
been selected by MKCTI organizers and the Bahamas Lawn Tennis
Association to
hit a few tennis balls with the Pro players immediately
following the exhibition on Saturday, December 5th at the National
Tennis
Centre.

9th annual Charity Invitational to be held from
December 3rd to 5th this year.
Andy recently partnered Mark at the Beijing Open where they reached the doubles final.
Andy
has been ranked #1 in the world previously, and is currently ranked #7. He is the
number #1 Ranked American player, 2003 U.S. Open Champion and three time
Wimbledon finalist.
The professional tennis exhibition will be held at the National Tennis
Centre, Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre at 3.00 p.m. on Saturday 5th December. Admission:

Nassau, Bahamas - Bahamian tennis star Mark Knowles today announced that the
9th Charity
Invitational will be held from
December 3rd to 5th this year.
Once again, the proceeds of the event will go
to aid local children’s charities such as The Cancer Society, the Sassoon
(Bahamas) Foundation for Pediatric Heart Care, The Special Olympics, The
Association for the Physically Disabled, The Chance Foundation and the Mark
Knowles Tennis Scholarship Fund.
To date
over $400,000 has been distributed to various charities.
The aim this year is to increase total donations to $500,000.
The professional tennis exhibition, the
Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational will be held at the National Tennis Centre, Queen Elizabeth
Sports Centre at 3.00 p.m. on Saturday 5th December.
One of the highlight
participants in this event will be Anna-Lena Groenefeld who partnered Mark to
win the 2009
Wimbledon Mixed doubles
Championships.
In December 2001, the first
Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitationalin Paradise Island in order
to support different Bahamian charities. This year's participants were: Sabine Lisicki, Kei Nishikori, Ryan Sweeting, Hugo Armando, Michaella Krajicek, Xavier Malisse, Alex Kuznetsov, Don Johson, Amer Delic and of course Mark Knowles! The over all winner was Kei Nishikori.
Mark Knowles, born in Nassau, is a professional tennis player.
He was awarded All American honours at UCLA in both singles and doubles. His highest singles ranking on the ATP was World No. 93. He has been very successful in doubles partnering with Canadian Daniel Nestor.
