Nassau, Bahamas - Mark your calendars now for December 6th - 9th for this event in its twelfth successful year!  Success has many interpretations but in this case it is clear that the Mark Knowles Celebrity Invitational is the winner in all categories.


The first and most important one perhaps is, that true to its mission of raising money for several children’s charities, it has to date raised in excess of $750,000.  Past recipients include: The Sassoon Pediatric Heart Foundation, The Association of the Physically Disabled, The Cancer Society, The Children’s Emergency Hostel, The Boy Scouts of the Bahamas, The Special Olympics and various scholarships...

NASSAU, Bahamas  - Former US Open men's champion and world No. 14 Andy Roddick headlined a field of tennis stars at the 11th annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational that raised $150,000 for local charities this past weekend at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. The event, which entertained a record spectator crowd, has now eclipsed $800,000 in total donations.
 
Roddick was slated to participate in 2009 but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He was excited to make his debut appearance at the annual event. "It's for a worthy cause, so I'm just glad to be here," the American told The Bahamas Tribune...

Nassau, Bahamas -  Bahamian tennis star Mark Knowles is pleased to announce the annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational will be held on 1-4 December 2011 at the Atlantis Resort & Casino by Presenting Sponsor, MDC-Partners, and organized by the Mark Knowles Management Group (MKMG).  

This year’s featured players are Andy Roddick, Xavier Malisse, and Sabine Lisicki.

Nassau, Bahamas - The 10th annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational proved to be a hit this weekend, with Scotland’s Andy Murray giving the banner-year event the buzz it was looking for. 

The exhibition, which took place Saturday afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre was the main attraction of the annual event. Murray, whom opted to fly the same day, had a rough start to his hectic Saturday, as he was awakened for a surprise drug test at six in the morning back in the United Kingdom...

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Pending wild, wacky weather back in the United Kingdom, the 10th annual Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational will host one of tennis’ biggest stars in recent years. 

World number four Andy Murray is scheduled to play in Saturday’s 3 p.m. exhibition event at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre on December 4th, but will have to defeat someone other than Rafael Nadal to get to The Bahamas – he’ll be battling unfavorable weather conditions which have caused travel delays throughout the United Kingdom the past few days...

Nassau, Bahamas - Taking time out of their busy schedule, international tennis pros are on island in Nassau to participate in the Mark Knowles Tennis Invitational this weekend. The important charity event has raised $500,000 to date and this year is a milestone 10th and tennis action will be at its best for the public exhibition set for Saturday, December 4th at 3:00pm at the National Tennis Centre.

The pros, along with sponsors and supporters of the event gathered for a welcome cocktail buffet party at Provence in Sandyport on Thursday evening...

Nassau, Bahamas - Mark is pleased to announce the exciting news that Andy Murray has booked his flights from the U.K. to come to take part in the Exhibition on Saturday 4th December at the National Tennis Centre.  Mark and the event organizers have their fingers crossed that the snowstorms, which have blanketed Scotland and the U.K. in the last few days, ease up and air travel operates on schedule for Andy. 

Andy said yesterday that he can’t wait to escape the sub zero temperatures and land in the sunny Bahamas...

Donald James "Don" Johnson was born in Pennsylvania, USA. Reached the World No. 1 doubles ranking in 2002. He has 23 doubles titles. During his career, he won the Wimbledon Men's doubles title in 2001 and the Wimbledon mixed doubles title in 2000. He also won the doubles title at the Tennis Masters Cup in 2000...

Bahamian pro Mark Knowles will be welcoming young guns  Robert 'Bobby' Reynolds, Amer Delic, Jesse Levine, Filip Krajinovic,  and Ryan Sweeting among others.

Alex Kuznetsov is 23 years old, and was born in Kiev, Ukraine. His highest singles ranking was #158. His father, Yuri, is a tennis coach, and his grandfather was a Ukrainian handball champion. Alex started playing tennis at age 6...

Five time Olympian and Bahamian tennis pro, Mark Knowles announces the launch of his new website, www.knowlzee.com.
"Knowlzee" is Mark's longtime nickname, used by both fans and friends.

The domain name change was decided to avoid confusion with a  popular fitness trainer of the same name; and the nickname is easy to remember, offers a shorter URL address and ultimately, provides branding opportunities for Mark's Fan Club which was debuted in the summer of 2008, "Knowlzee's Knockouts"...

Bahamian tennis pro Mark Knowles started the season with his new doubles partner Mardy Fish and the duo got off to bit of a shaky start and managed to play in four tournaments together. Knowles had a couple injuries he was dealing with and then Fish injured his hip  at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Texas and now will sit out the remainder of the clay court season.

Mark Knowles sent The Bahamas Weekly the following comments after Mardy's injury, "This season has been full of misfortunes. My injury caused us to miss the Australian hard-court season, one of my favorite times of the year, and then my calf acted up in my first match back in Memphis. Now, in our first tournament of the clay court season, Mardy incurs an injury that will keep him out until the French Open. It's like someone has placed a hex on us, so it's definitely been frustrating..."

Mark Knowles, Bahamian pro tennis player is back on the courts this week at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup in Memphis, Tennessee.

Knowles' new doubles partner, American Mardy Fish, are the tournament's  defending champions, winning over Travis Parrot and Filip Polasek last year.

"I'm really excited to team up with Mardy full time. We've played together at a couple events the past few seasons and found immediate success, so there's definitely a lot to look forward to. The combination of his powerful serve and ground-strokes with my hands at the net should prove to be victorious," said Mark Knowles...

Nassau, Bahamas - A fabulous time was had by all as the weekend’s activities drew to a close on Saturday afternoon, December 5th at the National Tennis Centre.

 

The 3 day Invitational started off with a wonderful Cocktail Buffet Party hosted by the Balmoral Club on 3rd December. The developers, Jason Kinsale and Raimond Zeilstra, staged a spectacular buffet and cocktail party which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.   The Calcutta auction of the teams playing in the ProAm on Friday, 4th December was heartily supported by many tennis fans, including Sarkis and Katie Izmirlian, Pippa and Peter Vlasov, Mark Holowesko, Laurent Colli, Christian Coquoz and Antonia Meade...

Nassau, Bahamas - Young twelve year old tennis player, Dylan Walker had the golden opportunity to travel courtesy of the Mark Knowles Celebrity Tennis Invitational to New Providence to participate in the 'Hit with the Pros' segment of the exhibition on Saturday, December 5th at the Bahamas National Tennis Center.

Stephen Turnquest, BLTA President, said that they wanted to include some representation from islands other than New Providence as so often they get neglected due to travel expenses etc and he is extremely grateful that the MKCTI is underwriting their airfares.
