Crash landing of aircraft in Bimini

Police in Bimini are continuing their investigations into the crash landing of a craft in South Bimini at approximately 2:53pm on Saturday 14th July, 2012.

The 45 year old Bahamian male pilot along with one male passenger age 34 years, both of New Providence, were reportedly en route to New Providence from Fort Lauderdale, when the aircraft developed engine difficulties resulting in the craft being crash landed at the airport in South Bimini.

Although the craft was extensively damaged, fortunately, nobody was injured during this incident and investigations are continuing.

Traffic officers investigating road accidents

Accident #1

On Saturday 14th July 2012, police officers at the Traffic Police Division investigated an accident that occurred at approximately 6:15pm on East Mall Drive, in the area of Police Headquarters. The accident involved a red, black and white 2005 Honda 650 trail bike which was owned and ridden by a 22 year old resident of Hanna Hill, Eight Mile Rock.

Reports are that the rider lost control of his bike and fell onto the road which resulted in him receiving serious injuries. The victim was transported to Rand Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical attention.

Accident #2

Monday 9th July 2012 at approximately 2:40am traffic officers investigated a traffic accident that occurred on East Sunrise Highway, just east of Coral Road, involving a red, black and white Honda 650 trail bike owned and ridden east along East Sunrise Highway by a 25 year old resident of Hawksbill.

Initial reports are that while riding with another cyclist, the 25 year old lost control of his bike and fell onto the road which resulted in serious injuries. He was also transported to the Rand Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical attention.

In both accidents, the cyclists were not wearing helmets and were riding without due care and attention.The police are concerned about the conduct being displayed by cyclists riding without helmets and without safety consideration for themselves and other road users. Hence, the attention of the officers is being heightened to address this vexing act of riders who defy the rules/laws of the road.
