Freeport, Grand Bahama - As we embark on a new school term, let us be reminded to always be safe and with that in mind the Royal Bahamas Police Force would like to remind you the public of a few safety tips to keep you and students safe throughout the new school year.

Reminders for Students and Parents:
  • Children should cross the street with an adult and should always use a pedestrian crossing.
  • Never run out into the streets or cross in between parked cars.
  • Always make sure when disembarking from a bus, to walk in front of the bus
where the bus driver can see them.
  • Teach each child their full name, address and phone number, also teach them
how to use the emergency number (911/919) in an emergency situation.
  • Walk the neighborhood with your children, show them safe places they can go in
an emergency situation.

  • Tell your child never to accept gifts or a ride from someone they don’t know well. Tell them to call you the parent first before accepting the gift or ride.
  • Report all suspicious activities to you the parent or a trusted adult and call the police. Bear in mind it is important to have a good communication with your child.
Here are some simple reminders for parents:

  • When dropping your child to school you should always check at least once a week with your child’s teacher to ensure that they are attending school.
  • Leave your contact numbers with your child’s teacher. Communication is the key.
  • Always attend P.T.A meetings and school programs. Let your child see you are
interested in all aspect of their education.

  • Always collect report cards on report card day with your child.
Here are some simple reminders for drivers:

  • Slow down and be especially alert in the residential neighborhoods and school zones.
  • Take extra time to lookout for kids at intersections, or medians and on curbs.
  • Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully.
  • Watch for children on and near the road in the morning and after school hours.
  • Reduce any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road.
  • Put down your phone and don’t talk or text while driving.
The public is reminded that the Royal Bahamas Police Force will be out in full force to ensure that all traffic laws are adhered to and to ensure the smooth flow of traffic as much as possible.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have any information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymous call Police at 919/911 or Crime Stoppers at 328-tips (8477) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands) or your nearest police station.
