Police in Grand Bahama and Bimini make significant firearm and drug arrests in the past 24 hours

Bimini and Freeport, Bahamas - The first incident occurred on Monday 2nd May 2016 shortly after 9:00am, officers in Bimini while at the Bimini International Airport had occasion to stop and search a male passenger where they discovered strapped to his person over two pounds of suspected marijuana. He was arrested and taken into police custody.

The second incident occurred shortly after 11:00am on Monday 2nd May 2016, officers of Operation Turf Sweep acting on information went to an area on Hudson Avenue where they discovered a .9mm pistol with a magazine containing (9) .9mm ammunition and over two pounds of suspected cocaine. No arrest was made in this matter.

The third incident occurred shortly after 3:00am on Tuesday 3rd May 2016, officers of Operation Turf Sweep acting on information went to an area on Hearne Lane where they discovered an AKA assault rifle that contained (2) hollow tip rounds of ammunition. No arrest was made in this matter.

Police in Bimini and Grand Bahama are actively investigating these matters.

Police are also urging anyone who may have any information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) or 1-242-300-8477 (FAMILY ISLANDS)

An alarm system is intended to detect a house breaking/burglary and will not necessarily prevent one. An alarm system should never replace good physical security such as deadbolt locks, adequate lighting, secure windows, strong exterior doors and security cameras.
