It was an emotional evening at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, Sept 18, 2019 as representatives from the diplomatic corps, civil rights moment, and Caribbean diaspora joined icon Xernona Clayton, Bahamas Consul General Astra Armbrister-Rolle and members of the Bahamas Christian Council to pledge support during a night of prayer for The Bahamas.

During the service, a representative from Congressman John Lewis’ office confirmed that he was supporting Bahamians getting temporary protective status in The United States...

The Hon. Frankie Campbell, Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, challenged the International Women’s Forum of leaders in government, business, the arts, science and academia, locally and internationally, to make ‘collective’ accomplishment a focus in order to move to new levels.

Commonwealth helps developing countries bank millions for climate action - Sep 19, 2019 - 11:18:29 PM

A Commonwealth facility designed to assist smaller and more vulnerable countries tackle the damaging effects of climate change has helped them access USD 27 million of funding.

The figure marks a milestone for the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub and is more than 35 times the original start-up investment of AUD 1 million from Australia. A further almost half billion USD has been applied for and is in the pipeline for climate action projects across the Commonwealth.

Secretary-General Patricia Scotland has described the initiative, which is currently managing 50 projects in 10 Commonwealth developing countries..

Over 80 members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force were assigned the duties of Hurricane Shelter Managers for 11 hurricane shelters that are currently open in New Providence and Grand Bahama as a result of Hurricane Dorian.

Prior to the storm, 60 RBDF Hurricane Shelter Support Team members were on call to manage and securing 51 Hurricane Shelters in New Providence alone in the event shelters were needed. The first Hurricane Shelter was activated in New Providence on August 31...

The government will create packages to assist those who have been affected by the devastation brought on by Hurricane Dorian so as to help people rebuild their lives and communities, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest during the National Prayer Service on Wednesday, September 18, at St. John’s Jubilee Cathedral.

Assistance and incentives will be offered, he said, as he pledged that the government will do their part.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has made an initial monetary contribution to The Bahamas to assist with its recovery efforts in Abaco and Grand Bahama following the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian earlier this month.

The sum of US$20,000 - monies raised through the CTO Relief Fund has been transferred to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of The Bahamas as part of the CTO's on-going support of the long-term recovery of the affected islands...
