When the new session of the Council of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), meets to begin its work for the next four years, The Bahamas will be seated as one of the Council’s 48 member states.  The Bahamas was successful in its first bid to sit on council gaining the vote of 162 member states, out of a possible 177 present and voting.  

The election to Council took place during the second week of the ITU’s Plenipotentiary Conference, (ITU PP) currently underway in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, UAE...

Defence Force Joins in Search Operation after Plane Crashes - Nov 9, 2018 - 4:17:55 PM

Search and Rescue teams from Nassau Airport Development Company, Bahamas Airport Authority, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Fire Services, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Harbour Patrol Unit, the United States Coast Guard, and BASRA were dispatched to the north shore of New Providence in search of a light aircraft that crashed in waters off Nirvana Beach late night on Thursday 8 November 2018.

The six seater Aztec aircraft was later spotted by Defence Force patrol crews shortly after 10:00 p.m.  just before sinking in waters half mile offshore...

Five artists from Grand Bahama—Chantal Bethel, Claudette Dean, Laurie Tuchel, Del Foxton, and Paula Boyd Farrington—will be featured in a group art exhibit titled YIN at Hillside House Gallery in Nassau, 9 November–30 November 2018.

Their work centers on the theme “Yin" (as in Yin & Yang), each a half of the harmony of the Universe, with works honoring the energy of the Divine Feminine.

Art works include homages to the empowerment of women as vessels of love, healing, and transformation, contemplations on reverence and wonder for Mother Nature and the feminine role as guardian of the sacred

After not being held for three years, a Bahamian Art and Craft Show will be held on Saturday, November 24 from 9 am to 8 pm.

‘Authenticity,’ as it is commonly known, was announced by Executive Chairman of BAIC, Michael Foulkes during a press conference on Thursday, November 8. The event is being held in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism.

Prime Minster Dr. the Most Hon. Hubert A. Minnis is making good on his promise to reduce the cost of electricity to those most vulnerable in the community.

In a statement delivered in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 the Prime Minister addressed the temporary spike in the fuel surcharge component of consumers’ electricity bills.

In this vein, he advised The House of Assembly that the Government will be moving an amendment to the law to allow for a temporary increase in the VAT exempt ceiling from $200 a month up to $300 per month...
