Accomplished commercial and civil litigator and legal professional Mrs. Tracy Ferguson-Johnson has been appointed General Counsel at University of The Bahamas (UB), responsible for providing the vision, planning, strategic direction and operational management of the Office of the General Counsel.

In this capacity, Mrs. Ferguson-Johnson will manage the University’s legal representation in all litigation and administrative proceedings and provide counsel and advice on compliance with the laws of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the statutes of the UB Act.

As General Counsel, she will maintain an appropriate framework for internal controls to ensure and protect the University’s legal interests and reduce its legal risks...

Reports are that on Sunday 16th September 2018, shortly after 8:00pm, police were called to a residence in the Leisure Lee area, where it was reported that three masked and armed men, entered a home, held up the occupants and robbed them of a quantity of jewelry, a shot gun and a 2013 champagne colored Buick Lacrosse...

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on Marathon Road  around 1:00 a.m. September 16. The person involved was an off-duty (Woman) Marine of the Royal Bahamas Defence driving a private vehicle at the time. The unfortunate incident resulted in a male and female pedestrian succumbing to their injuries...

Defence Force’s Harbour Patrol Unit Makes Arrest - Sep 15, 2018 - 11:32:09 PM

Two American citizens are in Police custody after they were found in possession of suspected drugs and weapons by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Marines on Friday afternoon.

While on patrol shortly after 12:00 pm, Patrol craft P-115, coxswained by Leading Seaman William Burns conducted a routine boarding and search of a blue and white Contender in the area of Nassau Harbour east. Results of the search uncovered a small quantity of suspected marijuana onboard. Further search of the vessel also uncovered 2 pistols, 1 shotgun and a total of 262 rounds of ammunition...

Reports are that on Saturday 15th September 2018, shortly before 6:00pm, police were called to a residence in Malibu Reef, where the body of an adult female was discovered hanging in a home. Family and friends expressed gratitude for assistance provided by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in conducting an extensive search for Ms. Amber Weech, who was reported missing since Wednesday.

Immediately, after receiving information of her last known whereabouts, members of the Defence Force’s Coastal Security team assisted family and community members in carrying out an area-wide search for Ms. Weech. The search was led by Petty Officer Frederick Clarke along the coastline, in nearby woods, and throughout local communities...

Travis Alexander Coakley aka “Justin Thompson” age 24 years of Exuma, was arraigned on Friday 14th September 2018, before Magistrate Renkin Johnson in Magistrate Court #3 in Freeport, Grand Bahama, on (42) counts of Fraud by False Pretenses. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and the matters were adjourned to the 3rd – 5th December 2018 and the 22nd - 24th January 2019 for trial. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until trial...

First steps toward resolving land ownership issue For BARC residents - Sep 14, 2018 - 12:21:13 PM

Minister of Agriculture & Marine Resources, Hon. Michael Pintard hosted residents of the North Andros farming community at the Bahamas Agricultural Research Center (BARC) to a special town hall meeting Wednesday, September 5. The meeting gave residents the opportunity to share their concerns and ask questions on the transfer of ownership of public land that was leased to the original tenants in the early 1970s by the Government of The Bahamas.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Pintard reassured the residents that the Minnis Administration is committed to resolving the ownership issue that may one day see land grants given to residents that want to farm.
