Minister of National Security the Hon. Marvin Dames said in the House of Assembly, on June 11, 2019, that the Royal Bahamas Police Force's (RBPF) Commissioner and his Officers have been successful in translating the Government’s crime agenda into effective operational strategies, so far that year.  

“For the first quarter in 2019, overall crime is down by seven percent compared to the same period in 2018,” Minister Dames said, during his Contribution to the 2019/2020 Budget Debate.  “Crimes against the person are down by 16 percent, as a number of prominent offences trended downward...

A consolidated grant programme that will fund tuition, compulsory course fees, stipends and accommodation payments for students who must relocate to attend University of The Bahamas (UB) will take effect in Fall 2019, the Minister of Education Hon. Jeffrey L. Lloyd announced during his contribution to the budget debate in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, 12th June.

Following the announcement, UB President Dr. Rodney D. Smith explained that the new Bahamas Government Tertiary Education Grant Programme is a major initiative that will increase access to university education for qualified Bahamian citizens...

A joint combined operation  between Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) HELO, a United States Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter, a USCG aircraft, and two Royal Bahamas Defence Force patrol craft resulted in the arrest of of a motorized wooden vessel that was smuggling undocumented migrants in waters southwest of The Bahamas during the afternoon of Wednesday 12 June 2019.

Information about the suspicious vessel was initially received by the Defence Force Operations Command Center from the United States Coast Guard earlier during the day...

The government is offering a tuition grant to qualified Bahamians to attend the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institution (BTVI) as of the fall semester 2019, as announced by Minister of Education, the Honourable Jeffrey Lloyd during his communication in the House of Assembly today.

The government has provided $4.1 million for this initiative, with the expectation of providing tuition grants to approximately 1,200 students attending or preparing to attend BTVI, which offers programs in New Providence, Grand Bahama Abaco and Andros...

During his substantive contribution to the 2019/2020 Budget Debate in the House of Assembly, on June 11, 2019, Minister of National Security the Hon. Marvin Dames announced that the proposed expenditure for the Ministry of National Security and the agencies under its remit for the 2019/2020 Budget cycle is $239,673,387.

“While this is a reduction compared to the previous budget, many of my Ministry’s initiatives started in 2018/2019 are over a three-year period with the annual payments less than the initial amount,” Minister Dames said...
