Grand Bahama Island – Hundreds of landlords and property owners turned out to a town meeting held at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre on Monday, September 29th to pre-register and hear how they could become eligible to provide housing for Ross medical school students who will begin school in January 2009 at the Seahorse Plaza interim campus in Freeport.
Sandi Cutler,
Ross Vice President for Planning and Business Development gave a brief history on Ross University, and explained the steps necessary for landlords to become listed with the Ross University rental registry which will be available to all Ross students by October 20th through their housing website.
Most Ross students cannot take the time away from their studies to travel to a new place and search for housing.
By using the university's housing referral service they are able to obtain trustworthy information and arrange their housing conveniently. This service is voluntary for students/faculty/staff and landlords, however 90% of Ross students use it.

Grand Bahama Island - Ross University Bahamas is seeking to identify landlords and home owners who have housing accommodations they would consider renting to Ross University students, staff or faculty.
A town meeting will be held on Monday,
September 29, 2008 at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre [Pro-Cathedral of Christ the King] commencing at 6:30 p.m. All interested persons are asked to attend.
The University will operate a Housing Office that will assist landlords in locating tenants.
This is a service that Ross currently provides at their Dominica, St Kitts, and Miami campuses, and one that has been very effective for both landlords and tenants. The university takes care to inspect each rental unit, and provides students with accurate and convenient information; the service is used by virtually all students and faculty seeking housing...

Grand Bahama Island - Two Bahamians have become the first official employees of the Ross University Medical School, Bahamas campus.
On September 18, 2008, Mrs. Mary Cooper, Administrative Assistant to the Campus Administrator, John Daley, joined Ross in a critical role involving coordination, organization and communication.
Joining Ross on September 22, 2008 is Miss Leslie Musgrove, the Off-Site Housing Coordinator.
Leslie has the critical job of helping oversee the programs that will facilitate staff and students in meeting their housing needs...

Ross University Begins Construction in Grand Bahama - Aug 25, 2008 - 10:09:34 PM
Grand Bahama Island – Only 4 weeks after the public announcement of the Bahamas campus, the interim Bahamas campus of Ross University will begin construction on August 25th, 2008.
The works to be carried out shall consist of the fitting out of approximately 30,000 sq. ft. of space in the Seahorse Shopping Center in Freeport. More specifically works being carried out will include construction of administration and faculty spaces as well as classrooms. Other support areas such as restrooms, storage and IT spaces will make up the total scope of the works. The cost of these works shall be approximately $2,000,000.00 overall. Completion is slated for December 31st, 2008.

Grand Bahama Island - Within just weeks of announcing their new Bahamas medical school branch campus, Ross University has begun their hiring process to accept applications for and put in place ground-floor vital positions open to Bahamians.
With their interim campus at Seahorse Shopping Plaza set to open in January 2009 with approximately 200 students, Ross University is seeking to fill four critical start-up hires immediately and have these positions in place for a September 15th start date.
These positions are director of finance, director of information technology, purchasing coordinator, and administrative assistant.

This video provides a bird's eye view into the challenges faced along the way, the economic growth potential for Grand Bahama island and the proposed different phases of the Ross University plan.
The Prime Minister praises the Port Authority "for its tenacity in bringing this venture to fruition", and he also says to the University that "it was not easy to get the government bureaucracy to change its mindset about not having offshore medical centers in The Bahamas."
Additionally, The Prime Minister alludes to the present situation at the Grand Bahama Port Authority as he praises the appointment of Eric Christensen as the new chairman of one of the Port Group Companies stating: "Eric Christensen is someone with whom I and my Government are happy to do, and to continue to do, business, if he is allowed to do business with us..."

Grand Bahama Island - A ceremony to announce the Ross University Bahamas Campus was held on Monday, July 28th at the future site of the campus location. The ceremony was held at Britannia Boulevard and Sunset Highway in Freeport. Moderator for the event was Mr. Terence Gape. Summer student at the Port Group Limited, Deangelo Armbrister sang the National Anthem, and Canon Harry Bain gave the Invocation.
The Right Hon. Hubert A. Ingraham, Prime Minister of The Bahamas was in attendance, along with local Ministers and dignitaries throughout the Grand Bahama community. Special invites were put out to those working in the health industry.
Ross University president, Dr. Thomas C. Shepherd provided remarks (enclosed within) as well as the new Chairman of the Port Group Limited, Mr. Eric Christiansen .

Grand Bahama Location to Accommodate Growing Student Demand
Ross University, a division of DeVry Inc. (NYSE:DV), announced it will open a branch campus in Freeport, Grand Bahama, in January 2009. The new location will accommodate the growing demand from new students who wish to attend Ross, which has a medical school campus in Dominica and a veterinary school campus in St. Kitts.
The Ross University Freeport campus will initially accommodate students in the University’s growing medical school. The students will be housed and taught in temporary space in Grand Bahama with Ross’s brand new 60,000-80,000 square foot campus scheduled to open in 2010...
