Day 1 of Davis Cup action kicked off today. Bahamian Philip Major met
Shakir Elvin from Antigua. This one would be the 2nd time they match up
in Davis Cup action. The first time was in 2018 where Phillip won in 2
sets 6-4, 6-3. This time it would be much improved with Philip allowing
only one game in the 1st set. In the second set he won 6-3 to win the
match.
In Rubber #2 Baker Newman from The Bahamas faced the #1
from Antigua, Jody Mangiley. Baker like Philip saw his opponent before
in 2018 where Baker won in two sets 7-5, 7-5...

Able Seaman Gharvis Sturrup proved to be the best all around athlete, as
he captured the prestigious Ironman Triathlon competition at the Royal
Bahamas Defence Force’s Annual Ironman Triathlon competition on May
31st.
Held at the Coral Harbour Base, the young rookie bested 8
other competitors in a grueling and fierce competition with an overall
time of 57 minutes, 15 seconds. Marine Seaman Troy Seymour followed a
close second with a time of 57 minutes...

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s softball team lost to the
NPSA defending champion Wildcats 20-4 Tuesday night at The Bankers
Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.
The Mingoes trailed
the Wildcats 8-4 going into the 5th inning. In the 5th, the Wildcats
batted around the order scoring 12 runs to go up 20-4. The Mingoes were
starting a comeback in the bottom of the inning but could only muster
one run...

Bahamas Judo National Champions creates new champions - Jun 5, 2019 - 1:01:42 PM
The Bahamas Judo Federation held it's national championship at Holy
Family Parish Activity Center this past weekend. Forty eight athletes
ages 6 to 25 participated. As expected Olympic hopeful Cynthia Rahming
won the senior females middleweight division. Also US Open winner Xavion
Johnson continued his dominance repeating as national champion for the
lightweight division ages 12 to 14.
However, there were some
surprises. Men's senior middleweight division was won by Alex Strachan
age 16 with his twin brother Daniel taking the runner up position...

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association held another successful session of
its "Play Tennis" Program. The sessions are fun and interactive and
provides a pathway for new beginners in the sport.

Brajaxaba Club joined in the training as some tennis juniors(including
Jacobi Bain, BreAnn Ferguson, Brianna Houlgrave, Virgil
Homere)participated in the session.

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture held an opening ceremony for
the 35th annual Frank "Pancho" Rahming Primary School Track and Field
Championships, May 22, 2019 at the Thomas A. Robinson Sports Centre.
Athletes from over 60 primary schools throughout the country
participated in a March-Past and were welcomed by the Ministry's
Director of Sports, Tim Munnings, who acknowledged that "this is the
largest number of participating schools." Some schools were first time
participants. Under Secretary of the Ministry, Renee Bullard, officially
opened the event on behalf of Minister of Youth Sports and Culture, the

Minister Of Sports Thanks The 2019 IAAF World Relays Bahamian Athletes - May 17, 2019 - 9:40:56 AM
The IAAF World Relays is an international relay sporting event
hosted by the International Association of Athletic Federations. In
2014, the World Relays was born in Nassau as a trial edition and then
again in 2015 and 2017. Due to its success in The Bahamas, the IAAF has
officially incorporated the event into its official calendar with the
relays now being held every two years.
The IAAF Relays now
provide athletes with the additional opportunity to compete and qualify
for both the World Championships, as well as the Olympic Games...

Mingoes perform well at Penn Relays despite weather challenges - Apr 29, 2019 - 4:30:46 PM
The UB Mingoes turned in strong performances at the 125th running of
the University of Pennsylvania Relays over the weekend despite the rain
and weather hurting much of their performances.
“It was a satisfying performance overall but I expected a bit more,” head coach Ednal Rolle said.
On
the main day of competition for the Mingoes on Friday Franklin Field
was drenched and temperatures dipped in the low 60’s. There were also
two weather delays on Friday because of rain and lightning.
