Bimini police investigating fire at BPL

Bimini, Bahamas - Reports are that on Monday 27th May 2019 shortly before 9:00pm, police were alerted of a fire at the power plant of Bahamas Power and Light Company on North Bimini. Officers and members of the Bimini Volunteer Firefighters along with volunteers from Bimini Resort and the community, assisted in extinguishing the fire that destroyed two (2) main engines of the power plant. Residents residing on North and South Bimini were without power services.

Shortly after midnight, power was restored to the Bailey Town and Porgy Bay area on North Bimini, however Alice Town and South Bimini are still without electricity.
Officers from the Grand Bahama Fire Department will be heading to Bimini to assist with this investigation.

POLICE ARE APPEALING TO ANYONE WITH INFORMATION REGARDING ANY CRIME, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR INSIGNIFICANT (THE TIP) MAY SEEM, TO ANONYMOUSLY CALL POLICE AT 919 OR CRIME STOPPERS AT 328-TIPS (8477) (NEW PROVIDENCE) OR 1-242-300-8477 (FAMILY ISLANDS) OR THE CENTRAL DETECTIVE UNIT AT 350-3106/12.

CRIME PREVENTION TIP – TAKE A STAND AGAINST ILLEGAL FIREARMS BY COOPERATING WITH THE POLICE IN PROVIDING INFORMATION REGARDING THE WHEREABOUTS OF ANY ILLEGAL FIREARM.
