Data Protection Commissioner to Hold 2nd National Training Symposium

Nassau, Bahamas - The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, along with the Department of Information Technology and the Cyber Crime Unit of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, wishes to announce its second National Training Symposium, under the theme “Presenting the 7th Data Protection Principle - Personal Data Security Offline and Online.” The symposium will be held on the 9th October, 2014 at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort, from 9:00a.m. to 3:00pm.

The symposium is scheduled to be officially opened by the Rt. Honourable Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and will close with a recognition luncheon for industry experts and participants. This year’s honorees are: Mr. Leon Williams, CEO, BTC; Mr. Felix Stubbs, General Manager, IBM; Ms. June Collie, Director of Department of Information Technology; Dr. Raymond Wells, Deputy Director of IT, NIB; Detective Sargeant Dale Strachan, Hi-Tech Crime at the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

This national training symposium underscores the Data Protection Commissioner’s Office mandate to provide public training. Symposium Speakers include: Mrs. Rowena Bethel, Director of National Insurance, Mr. Leon Williams, CEO, BTC, Mrs. Sharmie Farrington Austin, Data Protection Commissioner, Mrs. June Collie, Director of Department of Information Technology, Mr. Mark Barret, Head of Cyber Crime, Department of Information Technology, Mr. Richard Douglas, Secure Hosting, Ms. Stacia Williams, Vice President Human Resources, Fidelty Bank and Trust, Mr. Christian Sawyer, Managing Director, Sunryse Shredding Services and former Data Protection Commissioner , George Rodgers. Other industry stakeholders and vendors will be on hand to display their products and services.
