POLICE INVESTIGATES POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING

Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a shooting which occurred on Mon day 10th August 2020 that resulted i n an officer and m ale suspect being shot and a firearm recovered.

According to reports, shortly before 10:00 a.m., Police were called to a domestic dispute between a mother and son on Cascarilla Avenue, Pinewoods Gardens, on their arrival they were informed by the complainant that while home with other family members, her son came to the residence causing a disturbance because he had an issue with her conducting her morning prayer. The mother asked her son to discontinue his behavior, however, he became belligerent.

The complainant then escorted the officer s to a room where the son was located, he produced a firearm and began discharging shots at her and the officers. The officer who was leading grabbed the mother and shielded her from the gun fire, this resulted in him being struck by a projectile. His partners were able to get the mother and officer to safety. The suspect then locked himself in the room. The officers called for assistance and on their arrival an appeal was made to the suspect to open the door, which he refused. Officers later breeched the door to the room; the suspect again opened fire on the m, the officers returned fire fatally wounding him.

It was discovered that a second officer received injuries, they were both transported to hospital where they are being treated. Her Majesty’s Coroner visited the scene and was appraised of the facts, Investigation into this matter continues.

POLICE RECOVERED ILLEGAL FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

The efforts of the men and women of the Royal Bahamas Police Force resulted in the removal of an illegal firearm and ammunition from the Streets of New Providence on Mon day 10th August 2020.

According to reports, shortly after 1 : 00 p.m., officers from the Operation s Unit acting on information proceeded to Quarry Mission Road, on their arrival they conducted a search of an abandon building and recovered a silver and brown Zuka 9mm pistol with two unfired rounds of ammunition. No arrest was made during this incident.

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERIES

Police on the island of New Providence are see king the public’s assistance in identifying and locating two male suspects believed to be responsible for two separate Armed Robberies which occurred on Monday 10th August 2020.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 8:00a.m., a male while on Joe Farrington Road, met with a male who h ad advertised a phone for sale on face book. As they were about to complete the transaction a second male appeared, he produced a handgun and robbed him of cash. Both suspect s escaped in a blue colored Nissan, Blue Bird vehicle. Investigation in to this matter continues.

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly after 10:00a.m., a female while on Windward Road, Imperial Park, met with a male with whom she had arranged the purchase of a cell phone via Facebook. As the exchanged was being made, a second male appeared brandishing a handgun and robbed her of cash. The suspect s left the scene in a Blue colored Nissan, Bluebird vehicle. Investigation into this matter continues.
